With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, and IT solutions.\nLeidos' Mechanical Design and Analysis Department is actively seeking college students (Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Grad) to work at our Huntsville facility over the summer break (May, June, July, and August depending on student availability). This position will allow students the opportunity to experience hands-on technical work in design, 3D modeling, engineering drawing development, and/or analysis using CAE tools and hand calculations.\nCandidate(s) will receive mentorship from junior and senior engineers, and the intern will take actual ownership of design tasks. They will be given challenges that make a real impact on hardware that is delivered to our customers.\nPrimary Responsibilities\nSupport engineering design activities for DoD customers utilizing a broad engineering knowledge base.\nDevelop 3D CAD models from initial concept through to final designs.\nDraft engineering drawings for production, implement design revisions to support existing products, and/or participate in prototype assembly and testing activities.\nCollaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to produce cutting edge solutions for our customers.\nPresent designs/findings to senior engineering staff.\nBasic Qualifications\nStudent must be working toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET accredited college or university.\nStudent must be a U.S. Citizen.\nOverall GPA of 3.5 or above is required.\nStudent must be willing to work in-office in the Huntsville, AL area.\nProficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).\nAbility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.\nStrong communication and collaboration skills.\nMust be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.\nPreferred Qualifications\nStudents with the following experience are desired:\nExperience with design in CAD software - SolidWorks and Creo preferred\nHands-on experience with the design and assembly of mechanical systems.\nFamiliarity with the ASME Y14.5 GD&T standard.\nExperience drafting engineering drawings following ASME Y14.100 guidelines.\nStrong self-starter who showcases initiative to take on complex technical challenges.\nWillingness to learn, ask questions, and receive mentorship from an excellent engineering team.\nIf you're looking for comfort, keep scrolling.
