Your New Role and Responsibilities

The Security Engineer is responsible for implementing, configuring and operating technical security controls across the enterprise environment, ensuring systems and platforms are protected in line with organisational and regulatory requirements. The role embeds security into infrastructure, platforms and services by working closely with engineering and operations teams to design, deploy and maintain security capabilities across networks, systems and applications, implementing controls aligned with the Information Security Manual (ISM), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and Essential Eight requirements.

You will manage and maintain security tooling, including endpoint protection, monitoring and defensive controls, ensuring they are correctly configured, integrated and operating effectively. The role supports the detection and analysis of security events, vulnerability management and remediation activities by identifying weaknesses, prioritising remediation, implementing control improvements, ensuring systems are hardened, patches are applied, and security configurations meet defined standards. It also supports secure design and build activities by providing input into system configurations, network design, platform deployments, identity and access controls, network segmentation and secure configuration standards.

Working within a multi-vendor environment, the role ensures security controls are consistently implemented and integrated across service providers while supporting compliance and assurance activities through technical evidence and validation. You will also contribute to continuous improvement by strengthening security controls, improving detection and response capability, and supporting Essential Eight uplift activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement, configure, and operate technical security controls across infrastructure, platforms, and services

  • Manage security tooling, support event detection and analysis, and coordinate remediation activities

  • Perform vulnerability management, including identification, prioritisation, and remediation of weaknesses

  • Support secure design and build by embedding identity, access, and network security controls

  • Collaborate across multi-vendor teams to ensure consistent control implementation and support compliance activities

About You and What You'll Bring

  • Strong hands-on experience implementing and maintaining security controls across infrastructure, networks, and platforms

  • Proven experience configuring and operating security tooling such as endpoint protection, monitoring, and access control systems

  • Working knowledge of Australian Government security requirements including ISM, PSPF, and Essential Eight

  • Experience with system hardening, patching, secure configuration, and vulnerability management practices

  • Strong understanding of identity and access management and ability to embed security into engineering and operational processes

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and holds a current NV-1 level security clearance.
