Lely is a Dutch family-owned agricultural technology company based in Maassluis that develops milking, feeding and barn-cleaning robots together with farm management software for dairy farmers. Founded in 1948 by two brothers, it employs more than 2,600 people, reported revenue of about 1,014 million euros in 2025, and sells and services its Astronaut milking robots, Vector feeding systems and Discovery barn cleaners through independent Lely Centers in more than 50 countries. It hires service and installation technicians for milking and feeding robots, embedded, cloud and front-end software engineers, product owners, testers and procurement specialists.

At Lely, we're transforming the way dairy farms operate through world-leading robotic and automated farming solutions. As part of Lely's premium global network, our mission is to help farmers create a more profitable, enjoyable, and sustainable future.

We're looking for a motivated Service & Installation Technician to join our Southland team. If you enjoy solving technical challenges, working with cutting-edge technology, and building strong relationships with farmers, this is your opportunity to be part of one of the most innovative companies in the dairy industry.

Every day is different. One day you'll be installing state-of-the-art robotic milking systems, and the next you'll be helping customers maximize the performance of technology that's reshaping the future of farming.

As a key member of our technical team, you'll be responsible for ensuring our customers' robotic systems operate at peak performance by:

  • Installing, commissioning, servicing, and repairing Lely robotic milking systems and related technologies
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance and performance optimization activities (full training provided)
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting low-voltage electrical and mechanical faults
  • Responding to technical issues and delivering practical solutions in real-time
  • Participating in a 24/7 on-call roster to support our customers when they need us most
  • Building trusted relationships with farmers and providing exceptional customer service
  • Managing spare parts inventory and maintaining your vehicle service
  • Contributing to the successful rollout of new technologies across New Zealand farms

We're seeking someone who combines technical expertise with a passion for customer service and innovation.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience within the dairy industry and a good understanding of New Zealand farming systems
  • An electrical, mechanical, engineering, or technical trade background
  • EST registration and/or trade qualifications (highly regarded)
  • Milking Machine Tester/Technician qualifications (preferred)
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Confidence working with computers, software, and modern technology platforms
  • The ability to work independently while also being a valuable team player
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to travel and work additional hours when required

At Lely, you'll do more than just fix equipment. You'll help shape the future of farming.

We offer:

A career with a global leader in agricultural robotics and innovation

Industry-leading training and ongoing professional development

Exposure to cutting-edge automation and technology

A supportive, close-knit team culture where your contribution matters

Opportunities to connect and collaborate with colleagues across Lely's international network

Real career progression within a growing and future-focused business

A role that combines technology, problem-solving, customer interaction, and hands-on work

Ready to Join Us?

If you're passionate about technology, enjoy working in a rural environment, and want to be part of a company driving the future of dairy farming, we'd love to hear from you.

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
