The role bridges early-stage research and manufacturing by advancing molecules from discovery through process development, scale-up, and technology transfer, while ensuring product quality, scalability, and project success. Working closely with R&D, Analytics, Technical Operations, and external CDMO partners, the scientist drives scientific innovation and contributes to the successful delivery of customer and internal development programs.\nWhat Your Responsibilities Are\nDesign, develop, optimize, and transfer downstream purification processes for research and development programs.\nIndependently plan, execute, analyze, and interpret downstream process development studies.\nEvaluate and implement innovative purification technologies, chromatography approaches, and membrane-based processes.\nSupport process scale-up and technology transfer activities with manufacturing partners and CDMOs.\nApply scientific expertise to customer discussions, project proposals, grant activities, and business development initiatives.\nCommunicate project progress, experimental findings, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.\nAuthor technical reports, SOPs, study summaries, protocols, and quality documentation.\nMentor students, technical assistants, and junior scientists.\nDrive scientific troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.\nWhat We're Looking For\n Qualifications & Scientific ExpertiseMSc or PhD in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related life science discipline.\nStrong expertise in downstream process development, protein purification, chromatography, and scale-up of biologics.\nHands-on experience with ÄKTA systems, affinity purification technologies, and protein characterization methods (e.g., HPLC, SEC, ELISA, BLI/SPR).\n3+ years of industry experience in biotechnology, biopharma, or CDMO environments.\nStrong scientific problem-solving, data analysis, and technical writing skills.\nUnderstanding of upstream process development is an advantage.\nWorking methods & Cross-Functional CollaborationProven ability to independently design, execute, and interpret complex process development studies.\nExperience supporting process scale-up and technology transfer activities.\nStrong project management and prioritization skills.\nAbility to communicate scientific results effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.\nCollaborative mindset with experience working across multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior colleagues.\nMindset & Ways of WorkingPassion for solving complex scientific and technical challenges.\nIndependent, analytical, and data-driven thinker.\nAdaptable, resilient, and proactive, with a hands-on approach.\nSelf-motivated and comfortable working in a dynamic biotech environment.\nCommitted to scientific excellence, quality, and continuous improvement.\nAdditional RequirementsProfessional fluency in English, both written and spoken.\nWillingness to work primarily on-site in Aachen and collaborate closely with laboratory-based teams.\nYou'll be successful in this role if you...\nEnjoy turning challenging purification problems into scalable solutions.\nThrive in a hands-on laboratory environment while maintaining a strategic perspective.\nTake ownership and proactively drive projects forward.\nExcel in collaborative, fast-paced, cross-functional teams.\nWant to contribute to innovative biologics enabled by LenioBio's ALiCE® platform.\nWhat We Offer\nA full-time position in Aachen, Germany, offered on a two-year project-based contract.\nThe opportunity to shape the future of biomanufacturing.
