The position reports to the Ohio Plant Manager and takes direction on all safety matters from our EHS Leader, who is based in New York. On the safety side, you keep the program organized and moving: inspections, training records, safety files, incident documentation, and corrective-action follow-up. The safety work is coordination and recordkeeping, not engineering; technical assessments and regulatory determinations stay with the EHS Leader and other qualified personnel. On the office side, you handle the shipping, billing, and customer service administration that keeps orders moving out the door. Office administration is the larger share of a typical day, so you need to be as comfortable billing an order as you are walking the floor.\nThis is a good fit for someone who has supported a safety program in a plant or warehouse, is organized and accurate, and wants real ownership of the details.\nWhat We Are Looking For\nKey Responsibilities\nSafety coordination (under the direction of the EHS Leader)\nAssist in inspecting work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations; document safety inspections, citing dangerous areas or procedures and recommending corrective procedures.\nTrack corrective actions to completion: owners, due dates, status, and completion evidence; follow up with responsible personnel and escalate overdue items.\nMonitor completion of required machine and forklift pre-use checklists and promptly escalate missing inspections or reported defects.\nAssist in applying safety policies and procedures and in employee safety training, including new-hire safety orientation, training schedules, and the facility training matrix.\nMaintain assigned files and records, including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), machine SOPs, training acknowledgments, and required postings, ensuring compliance.\nAssist in maintaining safety equipment supply and availability, including PPE, first-aid supplies, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and AEDs, and the inspection schedules for them.\nAssist with incident, injury, and near-miss reporting: gather factual information, complete documentation in the company's EHS reporting system within reporting deadlines, and support OSHA recordkeeping and Ohio BWC claim documentation as directed.\nSupport emergency preparedness by maintaining emergency contact lists, evacuation postings, and employee accountability information, and by coordinating drills and follow-up actions.\nCoordinate the site safety committee: scheduling, meeting records, tracking employee concerns, and communicating progress.\nMay assist with hazardous materials program recordkeeping, ensuring materials are received, handled, stored, labeled, shipped, and disposed of in accordance with company and government regulations.\nOffice administration (under the direction of the Ohio Plant Manager)\nPrint customer orders and prepare order manifests for the Warehouse Manager.\nProcess order change requests as directed by Customer Service.\nBill customer orders.\nProcess inbound shipment receipt documentation.\nProvide clerical support to the shipping department and respond to customer service questions.\nProvide general administrative support to facility leadership, and perform other duties as assigned.\nExperience and Qualifications\nHigh school diploma or GED required. A two-year degree in occupational safety, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred.\nAt least one year of hands-on safety or EHS support experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution environment is required; two or more years preferred.\nOffice administration experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution setting (order processing, billing, shipping or receiving documentation, customer service) strongly preferred.\nFoundational understanding of company, state, and federal safety policies and regulations, and the ability to train others on them; developing ability to train others in the correct use of safety equipment.\nOSHA 10-Hour General Industry certification, or the ability to obtain it within six months of hire.\nProficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams); experience with an EHS reporting system or an ERP system is a plus.\nProduces quality, accurate work; detects and corrects errors; follows open items through to closure.\nEffective written and verbal communication; able to communicate safety expectations clearly and professionally and escalate concerns appropriately.\nHandles confidential incident, medical, and personnel information with discretion.\nExperience in a union environment preferred, but not required.\nWork Environment and Physical Requirements\nOnsite position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with regular time on the production and warehouse floor. Occasional flexibility to support safety activities on other shifts as facility scheduling requires.\nAbility to walk through manufacturing and warehouse areas, remain on the production floor for periods of time, and safely navigate an active industrial environment around manufacturing equipment and powered industrial trucks.\nAbility to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.\nAbility to alternate between standing and walking and prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.\nVisual and auditory ability to observe workplace conditions, communicate with employees, handle phone calls, and read written communications.\nWhat We Offer\nCompensation: This is an hourly non-exempt role. The starting pay range for this role and market is between $20/hour - $26/hour. Factors that may affect starting pay include geography/market, and the skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
