Our 1 year Business Apprenticeship provides a wealth of learning and development opportunities whilst gaining a level 2 Admin Assistant standard.

Our Business Administrator Apprenticeship enables the apprentices to move around different business areas within the Yeovil Organisation gaining valuable

experience and knowledge. This exposure will enable the apprentices to gain a valuable insight into the workings of the business, how different functions interact and enable a high level of networking.

The Apprenticeship

The Apprenticeship will start with an Induction into Leonardo. There will also be a Yeovil College Induction to ensure that apprenticeship requirements and expectations are fully established.

Placements will then commence onsite at Leonardo Helicopters (based on a 3 month period), rotating around different areas of the business.

During the final stages of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will move into a final placement to prepare for role post apprenticeship. Around 12 months’ work will be collated to prepare the apprentice for an ‘End Point Assessment’ (or EPA).

Placements covered may include; Quality Assurance, Procurement and Supply Chain, Programmes, Transmissions, UK Government Sales and Exports, HR and Operations. Within the various placements comes a variety of key responsibilities. For example;

Transmissions - you will manage elements of a supplier; including the running and correlation of an order book, problem solving and the expediting of key parts from a vendor.

Procurement - you will be shadowing buyers, scanning documents and loading into SharePoint, Supplier visit & KPI reviews, purchasing parts and managing contracts.

Programmes - you will be shadowing, completing maintenance of departmental systems, collate amendments for issue, diary management, action logs, communications support, updating of departmental brochures and organisation charts.

During each three-month placement, you will be working with cutting-edge facilities, learning how the various business areas operate, discovering how projects are run, managed and delivered, and having opportunities to liaise with customers and suppliers. There may also be opportunity to travel between the Company’s UK and international sites.

You will also gain additional skills throughout your apprenticeship, that include:

  • Information Technology
  • Record and Document production
  • Project Management

Security Clearance

At Leonardo, many of our roles are subject to security and export control restrictions set by UK Government Security requirements and customer obligations. As a result, and in line with the UK Government Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) requirements, all successful applicants will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK, criminal record declaration information and employment and/or education history verification for the previous five years.

For staff operating in more sensitive posts, there is an additional range of personnel security controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV). As part of this process, a range of factors may be considered, including an individual's background, travel history, nationality, previous nationalities held and other information relevant to the vetting assessment.

To be eligible for National Security Vetting at SC level, applicants will generally be expected to have continuously resided in the UK for the previous five years. For DV clearance, this is typically ten years. In some circumstances, time spent overseas may be accepted, with additional overseas checks. Additional vetting requirements may apply upon appointment.
