Deliver Information Advantage.\nWhat You'll Do\nLead the day-to-day technical delivery of software within a team or work package.\nDesign, develop, integrate and test complex software solutions.\nProvide technical guidance, coaching and mentoring to other software engineers.\nContribute to software architecture and take ownership of detailed software design.\nLead and contribute to code, design and technical reviews.\nWork closely with systems engineers, architects, data scientists, test engineers and customers.\nApply Secure by Design and high-quality software engineering practices.\nPromote automation, CI/CD, DevSecOps and modern engineering practices.\nInvestigate technical problems and help the team identify effective solutions.\nSupport technical planning, estimation, risk management and delivery.\nEnsure software meets its functional, performance, security and quality requirements.\nWhat We're Looking For\nYou'll be an experienced software engineer who enjoys remaining technically involved while helping others succeed.\nYou will be comfortable taking ownership, making technical decisions, solving complex problems and providing direction to a software engineering team.\nEssential Skills & Experience\nSignificant software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrable capability.\nStrong software leadership and development experience in one or more of:\nC++, C#, Python, Java\nDesigning and delivering software components and systems.\nSoftware design principles including SOLID principles and design patterns\nSoftware architecture\nInterfaces and system integration\nTesting and software quality\nProviding technical guidance or mentoring to other engineers.\nUnderstanding of secure software development practices.\nWorking across the software engineering lifecycle.\nCommunication and stakeholder engagement skills.\nDesirable Experience\nExperience in one or more of the following would be beneficial:\nAerospace, Defence, Security or Government environments.\nCommand & Control (C2), ISR, Sensor Fusion or Mission Systems.\nDistributed or data-intensive systems.\nCloud-native software and containerisation.\nDevSecOps and CI/CD.\nAI, Machine Learning or Data Analytics.\nHigh-integrity or mission-critical software.\nThe Person\nWe're looking for someone who demonstrates:\nTechnical Leadership\n Provides clear technical direction while remaining close to the engineering.\nAgency and Ownership\n Takes responsibility for outcomes, identifies problems early and drives them through to resolution.\nCollaboration\n Works effectively across software, systems, data, test and other engineering disciplines.\nCoaching and Mentoring\nSupports less-experienced engineers and helps build the capability of the wider team.\nEngineering Judgement\n Makes pragmatic technical decisions by balancing requirements, risk, quality, cost and schedule.\nContinuous Improvement\n Looks for better ways to design, develop, test and deliver software.\nSecurity Clearance\nThis role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).
