In this role you will play a pivotal role in our manufacturing operations team, shaping the; NPI / Repair strategies and requirements for DFx events, ensuring efficient production processes, adherence to quality standards, and timely project completion.\nThe role on offer is supporting the Future Combat Air Line of Business, this role will help plan future manufacturing activities to deliver products to schedule, quality and cost. The successful candidate will be supporting the business through developing & executing the Operations NPI process, Repair Definition, DFx and Manufacturing & Repair requirement strategies aligning with Leonardo lines of business throughout the UK.\nWhat you will do as a Manufacturing Engineer:\nProviding specialist input including the application of specialist skills and knowledge into a project team to help ensure the delivery of a technically sound solutions, meeting all stakeholder requirements within an NPI environment. \nLead the maturity of prototyping with a heavy focus on technical requirements generation & DFX.\nDefine the future requirements for products and services across the life cycle of the programme.\nHarmonise Manufacturing Engineering activities across multiple sub-system projects (UK wide).\nLead failure investigations, aware of all the project issues, able to prioritise and championing the solutions and deliverables using known problem solving techniques (e.g. 8D).\nWork in a highly skilled team, providing key inputs and data to aid Operations decisions and failure review boards.\nTracking external developments and disruptive technologies to identify exploitation and knowledge sharing within the project team.\nEnsuring the development of manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; understanding feedback from Leonardo operators, conferring with equipment vendors or external suppliers.\nAct as a Manufacturing Engineering authority in order to formally approve product / process / technology change.\nLead and deliver Manufacturing Engineering sections of the Manufacturing Maturity Reviews, maintain governance through the Lifecycle Management process and create / contribute / review and/or lead Manufacturing Plans.\nAdvising and participating on improving policies and processes within the operations framework.\nEnsure manufacturing decision-making information is robust with objectives and results.\nReviewing production schedules; reviewing production labour and material costs; estimating future requirements.\nPrepare product and process reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing information and trends\nCreate a culture which improves manufacturing efficiency by generating innovative ideas and solutions also ensuring capacity analysis, simulation planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout\nReview manufacturing documentation, can include input to process specific risk assessments, COSHH data, technical reports, specification.\nAssure product and process quality by designing methods; validation/verification of process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.\nAssure manufacturing data i.e. routings, production plans, control plans and electronic work instructions\nPromoting a culture of best practice sharing and knowledge exploitation. \nMentor, coach and develop more junior members of the team in order to develop overall capability.\nProviding domain experience in support of customer and user engagement and product road maps.\nMaintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.\nWhat we are looking for:\nWhat you really must have\nMinimum HND in relevant discipline or equivalent experience.\nExperience in leading NPI, Repair Definition, DFX Manufacturing & Repair requirement activities.\nManufacturing systems & process knowledge including PLM, ERP, MES and QMS/BMS. \nExperience in early phases of the product development life cycle (AS9145 - APQP phase 1 & 2). \nExperience in Process Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA).\nAbility to influence and negotiate with others using data and analysis to support line of reasoning\nA detailed understanding of the operational framework and business processes\nAn understanding of cross functional / commercial business processes and their own impact\nDemonstrated knowledge, and experience of multiple phases of the Product Life Cycle and the associated processes\nExperience of peer reviewing the work of others inside a product team and within a sub Engineering Unit and ensuring the resulting actions are implemented\nAbility to communicate concepts in a non-technical way\nConfidence and ability to challenge / respond to technical / process issues whilst understanding the broad impact of solutions (systems thinking)\nAbility to interact effectively and manage the relationships with customers and suppliers\nBeen involved in capability and / or process development, demonstrating an ability to implement a change to working practices\nProven experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on process optimisation.\nExcellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.\nProficiency in engineering drawings and production documentation.\nGood problem solving skills.\nAttention to detail.\nExcellent communication skills - both oral and written to articulate and explain technical understanding to a variety of audiences.\nIt would be nice if you had:\nExperience with Electro Mechanical Systems.\nExperience / Knowledge of Agile working practices / methodologies.\nExperience in Aerospace / Automotive sectors.\nLean Six Sigma Green belt accreditation.\nAccreditation from a recognised Manufacturing Engineering awarding body.\nSkills / Knowledge\nMinimum HND in relevant subject or equivalent or equivalent experience.\nNPI, Repair Definition, DFX Manufacturing & Repair requirement activities.\nManufacturing systems & process knowledge including PLM, ERP, MES and QMS/BMS. \nEarly phases of the product development life cycle (AS9145 - APQP phase 1, 2 & 3). \nLean Six Sigma / Continuous improvement toolsets. \nProcess Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (PFMEA).\nAbility to influence and negotiate with others using data and analysis to support line of reasoning.\nProduct / Drawing set configuration and control.\nLean Manufacturing & continuous improvement techniques. \nGood all-round computer literacy, including all Microsoft Office applications. \nExperience\nSuccessful management of Manufacturing Engineering activities within high value, complex manufacturing programmes especially in the early stages of the project life cycle within a dynamic environment.\nDemonstrable Manufacturing Engineering experience covering all product lifecycle phases with an extensive experience within the development & NPI phases at an appropriate level.\nSecurity Clearance\nYou must be eligible for full UK security clearance (developed vetting clearance may be required) Normally this is to the level of Security Check (typically known as “SC”) for our business, which includes having a minimum of 5 years permanent residency in the UK.
