We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Transmissions Engineer, from either a designer or analyst background to join our team at the Home of British Helicopters.\nYour impact\nAs a Helicopter Transmissions Engineer working in our Leonardo UK Helicopter Division you will be supporting both the UK and Italian geographies so although based in the UK there is the opportunity to work on our full product range and travel to other international sites.\nAs part of the Transmissions Systems Team, you will be involved in activities across our wide product range encompassing conventional helicopters, tilt rotors and unmanned air systems.\nAt Leonardo Helicopters, we are responsible for the design of the complete air vehicle and working within the team you will have the ability to participate in all phases of the product design life cycle from participating in leading edge innovation to supporting aging aircraft.\nThis role is based in Yeovil with the potential of hybrid working.\nFor awareness of internal applicants this is a Job Family Framework level 6 (Engineering)\nWhat you will do as a Transmissions Engineer Specialist:\nA Designer would be responsible for the following:\nGeneration of conceptual transmission system layouts, detailed 3D models and 2D drawing for Transmissions components, including gears, bearings, casings, shaft and couplings utilising CATIA V5 using full life cycle considerations and concepts\nSupport; preparation, introduction and embodiment of product improvements, cost reduction initiatives and modifications\nTransmission configuration control and build standard management\nPreparation of reports and presentations relevant to the assigned activities\nPreparation of specifications for vendor supplied components or assemblies\nSupport to Repair and Overhaul, Sustain Engineering and Manufacturing\nSupport the Sustain Engineering function with in-service and production issues\nPreparation and producing initial stress analysis\n\nAn Analyst would be responsible for the following:\nSupport to conceptual design stage with preliminary sizing evaluations/activities\nPrepare and perform Finite Element Analysis (component/assembly) utilising company software packages\nPreparation and delivery of Structural Analysis reports\nPresent analytical results/conclusions on fatigue and lifing issues to senior management\nSupport preparation of specifications for vendor supplied components and/or assemblies\nSupport preparation of qualification/certification test technical documentation\nSupport to Operation’s Repair and Overhaul organisation and Sustain Engineering function evaluating in-service and production issues\nDevelopment of in house techniques and support to less experienced engineers\n\nWhat you’ll bring:\n From a design background we would expect you to have knowledge of 2D drafting and 3D modelling using CAD software (conceptual/detail & assemblies) and experience in 3D CAD using CATIA V5 and FT&A package\n From an analyst background we would expect you have sound knowledge and/or relevant experience in Stress and Fatigue analysis\nA degree in mechanical design\nA detailed knowledge of gears, bearings, casings, couplings or shafts\nGood knowledge of mechanical design (dimensioning & tolerancing)\nThe ability to prepare and generate reports relevant to the assigned activities\nA motivated and proactive approach with the ability to problem solve\nPrevious experience in a mechanical design engineering environment\nThe ability to manage, plan and execute tasks to achieve timescales and costs\nTo perform in the role you will need to work well in a team and be flexible and adaptable\nIt would be great if you have:\nEvidence of working in a regulated environment with knowledge of airworthiness regulations e.g. MAA, EASA or FAA\nKnowledge of helicopter mechanical/transmission systems\nExpert knowledge using CATIA V5 environments\nExpert knowledge of Finite Element Analysis software packages (Abaqus, Hyperworks or similar)\nThis is not an exhaustive list, and we are keen to hear from you even if you might not have experience in all the above.
