You combine rapid experimentation, enterprise software engineering and production operation to bring solutions from an initial idea into secure, maintainable operation.\nWhen a business team comes to you with a problem nobody yet knows how to solve, you are the person who steps in: you clarify the real need, say openly when a simpler solution will do, and otherwise build it together with them end to end - safely, reliably and in production.\n1. Design and build AI-enabled applications\nBuild AI-enabled solutions, web apps, APIs and workflow integrations using GenAI, agents, document intelligence, computer vision, classical machine learning or similar, but only where AI beats simpler conventional solutions.\nTurn unclear business problems into testable hypotheses and working vertical slices for early user validation.\nAssess prototypes from LEONI’s Core AI team, business users, or citizen developers. Decide with stakeholders whether to harden, rewrite, integrate, buy or discontinue them, and take the chosen ones to production with tests, CI/CD, observability and documentation.\n2. Integrate AI with LEONI systems and data\nBuild secure, reusable integrations, MCPs and APIs to LEONI enterprise and engineering systems.\nRespect existing identity, access and data-governance boundaries instead of copying data into isolated AI apps.\nWork with system owners to make strategic systems increasingly AI-ready.\n3. Engineer reliable AI behavior\nDesign evaluations, test datasets and tests for probabilistic outputs, with quality thresholds agreed with process owners.\nImplement risk-appropriate safeguards, human review and fallbacks, and make model limitations visible to users.\nProtect AI solutions against AI-specific risks such as prompt injection, data leakage through retrieval and unintended agent actions, and, in collaboration with Legal and Information Security, implement controls that relate to compliance with GDPR, the EU AI Act and LEONI's InfoSec requirements.\nMonitor quality, usage, latency, cost and failures in operation.\n4. Contribute to AI platforms and reusable foundations\nBuild reusable AI services, templates, starter repositories and reference implementations.\nShape LEONI's approach to AI-assisted development for IT as well as Citizen Developers and governed business-built applications.\nSelect and compare models and hosting options (e.g. cloud-hosted vs. open-weight) on quality, cost, latency and data-protection criteria, and manage model updates, deprecations and migrations without disrupting users.\nHelp define standard interfaces for document processing, retrieval, model access, authentication, logging and evaluation.\n5. Support improvement of engineering practices in the AI era\nPromote sound fundamentals such as modular design, version control, automated testing and code review.\nUse AI coding assistants productively while staying accountable for the result and help set lightweight standards for AI-generated code.\nTake part in architecture and security reviews and help design proportionate controls for different risk levels.\n6. Work across business, AI and IT\nCollaborate with LEONI’s Core AI Team, IT architecture, IT security, other IT roles, data owners and process experts to turn business outcomes into delivery increments.\nExplain trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and coach other IT Engineers or Citizen Developers, where needed.\nContribute implementation know-how to other IT and Citizen Development colleagues without becoming the permanent support owner for a locally built app.\n Must-have\nExperience: Typically 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 2 years building AI- or LLM-based solutions, or equivalent demonstrated impact.\nEngineering: Strong professional experience building and operating full-stack, pro-code applications in an enterprise environment of comparable size or complexity, with solid fundamentals in architecture, APIs, integration, testing, security and deployment.\nAI: Proven experience building AI and agentic solutions and running them in production, including evaluation, regression testing and quality monitoring; Python and/or TypeScript on a major cloud platform (ideally Azure).\nOwnership: A proven track record of solving open-ended business problems hands-on with AI - from the first conversation to a reliably running production solution - rather than only implementing well-specified use cases.\nMindset: A product mindset: you consider the end user, business outcome and long-term operation, not just the initial implementation.\nLanguages: Fluent English; German at least at B2 level, or willingness to reach it within the first year.\nNice-to-have\nExperience working across business functions and technical teams.\nExperience with LLM and agent frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph or comparable libraries.\nFamiliarity with Microsoft technologies and tools used in enterprise environments.\nExperience with industrial AI in production, such as visual inspection, predictive maintenance or anomaly detection, including MLOps for traditional machine-learning and computer-vision models.\nExperience in manufacturing, Tier 1 automotive supply or the automotive industry, ideally with smart-factory topics such as shop-floor data integration, produ\n You’ll be part of a cross-functional automation team in a global environment\nYou will collaborate with business and IT stakeholders while contributing to scalable automation initiatives.\nYou’ll work in an environment that values innovation, experimentation, and growth.\nOpportunities for certifications and development.\nPeople of all genders are always meant equally; for linguistic simplification and better readability, only the masculine form is used in the text.\nLEONI processes your application data in an IT-system that is consistent across the company and uses Foreign Service providers.
