This is mostly a 100% technical role, in which you will provide specialist technical inputs and support to ensure professional and compliant designs are produced on time, within budget, and to specifications.\nYou will be required to perform Fire Risk Assessments, produce Rational Fire Designs and Fire Protection System Design for Greenfields and Brownfields projects within the Industrial, Power Generation and Oil & Gas Industry.\nYou will be required to produce and oversee quality engineering outputs related to fire suppression and protection systems that satisfy all requirements (Client, Codes, and Standards) by adhering to internal engineering processes. specialist inputs and support to ensure professional and compliant designs are produced on time, within budget, and to specifications. However, the role involves providing guidance to Engineers/Technologists, Junior Engineers/Technologists, and Engineers in Training (EITs), and may act as Lead Engineer on Fire Protection projects managing a technical, Fire Engineering team within the project organogram.\nKEY PERFORMANCE AREAS\nNew Business Development, Tenders and Proposals\nAct as Technical Proposal/Tender Lead for Fire Engineering Related Projects (as appointed by the HOD).\nDevelop User Requirements Specifications (URS) and Operational Requirements Specifications (ORS) with clients.\nReview and clarify URS, and brainstorm with Engineering Team throughout proposal and tender phases.\nConduct concept development and feasibility checks.\nCompile and review technical specifications and enquiry packages.\nReview technical outputs from others and adjudicate supplier offers.\nDevelop Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and estimate engineering effort.\nProvide input to project schedules and document assumptions and URS deviations.\nIdentify technical and commercial risks.\n Design and Design ReviewsDevelop and review basic and detailed designs industrial fire protection and suppression systems:\nPerform Fire Risk Assessments.\nDevelop Rational Fire Designs and Fire Plans.Develop Fire Protection System Designs including Hydraulic Analysis.\nPerform Compliance & Safety Audits for Existing Systems and Installations.\nWork with other engineering disciplines and architects to integrate fire safety intobuilding and structural designs.\n\nEvaluate and communicate engineering software requirements to the HOD.\nIdentify and apply required codes and standards.\nManage effective change management and consider financial aspects for decision making.\nIdentify engineering risks within projects.\nAddress internal/external review comments and obtain AFD and AFC Freeze.\nAttend FATs of Fire related Equipment (e.g. pumps).\nOversee sub-contractor designs to ensure compliance and timely delivery.\nDesign IntegrationInterface with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated design delivery.\nParticipate in Integrated Design and/or 3D model Reviews.\nSite Engineering, Commissioning and Project HandoverSupport installation team by resolving technical queries, performing site inspections, and implementing design changes.\nSupport commissioning manager by acting as commissioning engineer, compiling procedures, and recording commissioning data.\nSupport Project Team with handover and close-out of engineering deliverables.\nDevelop as-built documentation and resolve punch lists.\nSupport system/plant performance testing and contribute to lessons learned.\nContract NegotiationsParticipate in client technical negotiations to reach approval/signature stage when needed.\n Technical Guidance and TeamworkProvide guidance to EITs, Junior Engineers/Technologists, and Engineers/Technologists.\nMentor Engineers in Training (EITs).\nTransfer knowledge to junior team members.\nPromote and support the Lesedi Values.\nApply working knowledge of performance management.\nQUALIFICATION\nB.Sc / B.Eng / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent (required).\nRegistered as a Professional Engineer/Technologist with ECSA or equivalent (required).\nPost Graduate Qualification in Fire Engineering (beneficial).\nRegistered as a Fire Protection Systems Practitioner / Fire Protection Systems Rational Design with ECSA (beneficial).\nEXPERIENCE\nMinimum 10 to 15 years relevant fire engineering experience.\nAt least 4 years in the Power Generation or Oil & Gas Industry within the EPC or EPCM Environment.\nCOMPETENCIES\nKNOWLEDGE\nTechnical Knowledge\nGood knowledge of the Engineering Design Life Cycle within EPC / EPCM Projects.\nGood knowledge of SANS and NFPA codes applicable to the Fire Engineering within the Power Generation and Oil&Gas Industries.\nGood knowledge of other applicable codes and standards (e.g. BS, SANS 347).\nGood general knowledge regarding the fundamentals applicable to the selection, sizing, operation and construction of Mechanical Equipment (fire pumps, fire water tanks, valves etc.).\nGood general knowledge regarding fire protection piping systems within Power Generation and Oil & Gas Industries.\nKnowledge of the OHS Act and its Regulations.\nGood knowledge of ISO quality systems principles (ISO 9001, 14001, 18001).\nGood understanding of PMBOK principles and project management procedures.\nTechnically competent within the applicable knowledge area.\nGood knowledge and application of project delivery models (EPC, EPCM).\nGood understanding and application of financial aspects of projects.\nCommercial and Financial Knowledge\nGood knowledge of contract management and types of contracts (NEC, FIDIC).\nGood knowledge and application of project delivery models.\nGood understanding and application of financial aspects of projects.\nSKILLS\nComputer literate (MS Office).\nFire System Hydraulic
