As a Mechanical Engineer at Lexington Medical, you will take designs from concept to production, with broad ownership of the work along the way. \nAbout Lexington Medical \nLexington Medical, Inc. is a medical device company designing and manufacturing surgical stapling technology at our headquarters in Bedford, Massachusetts, just outside Boston. Our AEON™ Endostapler is an FDA-cleared, minimally invasive surgical stapler used in operating rooms around the world. With engineering, manufacturing, and quality working closely together, engineers stay close to the product and see their work move from an idea through prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and ultimately into the operating room. \nAbout the Role \nAs a Mechanical Engineer at Lexington Medical, you will join an R&D team developing precision surgical stapling devices across one of three areas. Placement is based on your experience and interests. Across the teams, you will design components and assemblies, build and test prototypes, iterate, and work with manufacturing to bring it into production. \nThis is a good fit for an engineer who wants to do more than own a narrow piece of a larger program. You will stay close to the physical product and the full development process across three specialized groups: \nReloads: Cartridge mechanisms, staple formation and geometry, firing sequences, and tissue compression. \nManual Handle: Linkages, gear trains, force transfer, ergonomics, and design for manufacturing. \nPower Handle: Motorized systems integrating mechanical components, motors, sensors, electronics, and other electromechanical elements. \nResponsibilities \nDesign, prototype, and validate mechanical and mechatronic subsystems for the AEON™ surgical stapling platform.\nDevelop 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks.\nReview designs for mechanical performance, reliability, manufacturability, and appropriate tolerancing.\nSelect materials and components for precision, miniaturized mechanical systems.\nBuild and test prototypes and use experimental results to guide design decisions.\nPartner with manufacturing engineers on DFM/DFA, process development, and design transfer.\nDocument development work in accordance with medical device design controls and quality requirements.\nSupport improvements to existing products with a focus on performance, quality, manufacturability, speed, and cost. \nQualifications \nBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.\nStrong mechanical engineering fundamentals and hands-on problem-solving ability.\nProficiency with 3D CAD; SolidWorks experience is preferred.\nExperience designing precision mechanical components and assemblies.\nExposure to manufacturing processes such as injection molding, CNC machining, additive manufacturing, or stamping.\nExperience taking designs through prototyping and testing.\nAbility to communicate design decisions clearly and work closely with engineers across disciplines.\nCuriosity, sound engineering judgment, and a strong sense of ownership.\nMedical device or other regulated product-development experience is a plus. \nWhat Success Looks Like \nWithin your first 3 to 6 months, you are independently designing and testing components that contribute directly to active product programs.\nWithin your first year, you have taken designs through development and into manufacturing.\nYour work reflects strong mechanical judgment, thoughtful experimentation, and attention to the details that determine whether a design performs. \nPortfolio \nPlease submit a portfolio showing relevant engineering work, such as CAD, prototypes, technical drawings, testing, or other examples of how you approach engineering problems.
