As a Senior Chemist II, you will play a pivotal role in our research team, applying both practical and theoretical synthetic organic chemistry skills. If you are passionate about making a real impact in the world of chemistry, this is the opportunity for you!\nKey responsibilities\nComplete scheduled work on time, within budget, and within specification\nAchieve right first-time results to reduce rework\nEnsure timely delivery in full for all projects\nUnderstand underlying chemical and physical principles before starting assigned work\nEffectively monitor all reactions to prevent incomplete work-ups\nReport any batch failures or unexpected results immediately to the Chemistry Manager\nIdentify and communicate opportunities for improving chemical procedures\nEfficiently complete custom synthesis/NPI projects, including crafting synthetic routes, improving existing routes, and troubleshooting\nContribute to writing and revising detailed procedures\nMaintain complete and accurate records of all work\nPlan and manage continuous improvement (CI) projects\nSupport the development of new products within the company\nAccurately record, interpret, and report all generated data\nStay up-to-date with relevant current literature and technical developments\nReview, optimise, and define manufacturing instructions for continuous improvement\nEnsure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations\nMeet key performance benchmarks:\nRight first-time (RFT)\nDelivery to plan (DTP)\nEfficiency (number of batches completed per chemist per week)\n Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Certifications\nPhD or equivalent experience in Chemistry\nMinimum of 10 years industrial experience or relevant postdoc\nProven project management experience\nExperience working in a quality-led laboratory environment\nBatch manufacture experience from Demonstrated success in product development projects\nExperience with contract/custom synthesis projects\nProven experience in process improvement and scale-up projects\nExperience in projects involving new product development\nDesirable: Knowledge of oligonucleotide synthesis\nKnowledge and experience in:\nSynthetic organic synthesis\nSetting up and working up reactions\nPurification of materials (column chromatography, crystallisation, precipitation, distillation)\nAnalysis by TLC, HPLC, LCMS, NMR\nProcess improvement projects\nPerson specification\nEnthusiastic great teammate with outstanding communication skills\nAttention to detail and accuracy in work\nFlexibility to adapt to changing operating conditions\nMethodical and reliable work approach in a highly organised manner\nApproachable and helpful demeanor\nProactively resolves tough situations and pushes through solutions\nCommercial awareness with an ambition for personal and business growth\nAbility to mentor and develop less experienced chemists\n ABOUT LGC:\nLGC is a leading, global life science tools company, providing mission-critical components and solutions into high-growth application areas across the human healthcare and applied market segments.
