Join us and help shape the future of Lhoist North America.\nRESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:\n 1. Manage Divisional Projects:\nManage capital improvement projects at existing operations.\nPrepare scope of work documents for projects assigned.\nProvide expertise in evaluation of potential projects including the selection of new equipment, new technology, and process innovations.\nExecute feasibility studies and conceptual design (pre-engineering studies).\nDevelop cost estimate or direct the work of an engineering firm to develop the estimate.\nScope, define and write standards & specifications for basic and detailed engineering.\nReview and challenge basic & detailed engineering studies.\nDevelop Capex Requests for new improvement projects.\nEnsure capital projects are completed on time and within budget.\nSupport Engineering and manage the capital projects.\n2. Mechanical Engineering:\nDevelop conceptual design for small projects.\nProvide mechanical engineering expertise and experience in design of new equipment and modifications of existing plant infrastructure.\nReview mechanical and electrical design details of proposals submitted by design engineers and contractors\nReview and approve fabrication drawings for projects.\nReview reliability engineering function at the Plants and develop systems to improve reliability management\nWork with the Maintenance Managers at the Plants to develop major maintenance priorities\nIdentify ways to increase productivity in Maintenance through improvements in work processes, techniques and tools.\n3. Divisional Capital Budget:\nPrepare CERs for capex projects, primarily focused on investments to support process improvement.\nAssist Finance with technical supporting data for CAFÉ forms on these and other applicable projects.\nSupport the plants’ budgeting process for capital by helping to identify needed projects that will lead to overall improved process efficiency.\n4. Provide technical assistance in solving equipment problems:\nTravel to the different Plants and Terminals as required for on-site technical evaluations.\nLead investigations to determine the root causes of equipment failures.\nTrack implementation of recommendations for changes and improvements.\n5. Provide a variety of engineering functions in support of plant operations and optimization efforts:\nUnder general direction, perform engineering duties supporting various disciplines including process, production/manufacturing, electrical, automation, quality and maintenance (reliability).\nAbility to perform with minimal supervision on multiple projects in a continuous manufacturing environment is essential.\nDevelop material balances, preliminary layouts and equipment lists.\nAssist the operating personnel in evaluating new equipment and technology.\n6. Function as a facilitator / technical advisor to operations:\nProvide facts & data for evaluating system improvement opportunities.\nAssist with implementation of system improvements & projects.\nDevelop Standard Operating Procedures for approval.\nFormulate and present technical training.\nProvide assistance and design guidance with safety practices in mind.\n7. Other duties as assigned.\nATTRIBUTES:\nStrong understanding of safety and environmental regulations, and the desire to follow all established procedures.\nHigh energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities.\nKnowledgeable in all phases of plant design, process evaluation, equipment application and construction management.\nProficient in statistical process control and data analysis.\nTechnical aptitude and strong analytical skills.\nDetail oriented with problem solving.\nAble to work effectively in a cross-disciplinary way with all levels of the organization.\nAble and willing to spend time in the plants working with the Operators, Supervisors, and Managers.\nExcellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.\nDemonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, and AutoCAD.\nAbility to travel to plant sites about 60-70% of the time.\n PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:\nMust be physically able to perform work assigned.\nMust be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.\nAccess all areas within a site which could include heights of 150 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.\nWill be working at times in covered environment but mainly in a lime/mineral environment.\nThe employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Lime/Mineral Particles.\nThe employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.\nOccasionally lift up to 50 pounds.\nREQUIRED EDUCATION:\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or other technical related field or equivalent work experience.\nPREFFERED EDUCATION:\nProfessional Engineering Registration (P.E.), CAPM or PMP certification.
