The Opportunity:

The Senior Finance Operations Analyst (Collections & Cash Management) will report directly to Assistant Controller II, North American Financial Operation in the U.S., and have a dotted reporting line to the Manager, Finance Operations in Toronto.

The Senior Finance Operations Analyst will play a key role in maximizing working capital performance: optimizing cash flow, reducing outstanding receivables; ensuring efficiency of collections, cash applications and other critical financial processes. The role provides leadership and oversight of two offshore teams responsible for Collections and Cash Applications, offering strategic direction, operational support, and escalation management for complex issues.

Working closely with brokers, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders, the Senior Finance Analyst will drive operational excellence, enhance financial accuracy and foster strong business relationships to support organizational objectives. In addition, the role supports key Accounts Payable activities and serves as the designated backup for the Accounts Payable function, ensuring continuity of critical financial operations and seamless service delivery.

Functional Responsibilities:

• Supervise offshore Collections and Cash Applications teams, providing daily leadership, coaching, and technical support to ensure effective performance and service delivery.
• Act as the primary escalation point for complex broker, collection, and cash application issues; taking ownership through resolution.
• Lead regular reviews of aged receivables and large outstanding premium balances, developing and monitoring action plans to drive resolution.
• Partner with internal stakeholders in Underwriting, Operations, Claims and Reinsurance to investigate discrepancies, resolve outstanding balances; ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and maintained within the system.
• Analyze and report on outstanding Accounts Payable (AR) balances, identifying accounts suitable for write-off, validating collection efforts and preparing recommendations for management approval.
• Ensure all payments are recorded, allocated, and reconciled accurately and timely manner, providing the team guidance on exceptions and complex transactions.
• Maintain and enhance standard operating procedures (SOPs) and internal controls to support consistency, compliance and operational excellence.
• Identify and implement process improvement initiatives across Collections, Cash Applications, and Accounts Payable (AP) functions.
• Facilitate audit and SOX requests, ensuring relevant documentation and explanations are provided as required.
• Review AP transactions for accuracy, supporting documentation, and GL coding prior to payment release.
• Serve as the backup for Accounts Payable (~15% of the time), supporting vendor payments, inquiries, reconciliations and period-end close activities: accruals and Reconciliation of subledger balances to the General Ledger
• Foster a high-performance team culture of accountability, collaboration, business process optimization and professional development.
• Participate in special projects and provide cross-functional support to contribute to departmental objectives and wider business objectives.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, controllership, or finance roles, preferably within the insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries.
• Ideally, experience with Genius ERP or other ERP platforms and financial systems
• Exposure to IFRS and GAAP is beneficial
• Hands-on experience managing month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, reconciliations, and core accounting operations.
• Solid understanding of internal controls, accounting policies, and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated success leading process improvements, standardization initiatives, automation projects, and organizational change.
• Proven ability to build effective partnerships and influence stakeholders across Finance, FP&A, Actuarial, and global business teams.
• Excellent communication skills: ability to translate complex accounting concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-financial audiences.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving, with exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience leveraging technology, automation and data-driven processes to improve efficiency and decision-making is an asset.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Target Hiring Range: CAD $91.500 - 115,000

This range represents the expected annual base salary for this role, however, offers above the published maximum may be approved with appropriate business authorization. Final offers will be determined based on each candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, and the needs of the role.
