People with new perspectives, energy and passion to drive Viva Energy and their careers forward.\n An exciting opportunity exists for a Jetty Operations Manager (Jetty Controller) to lead the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our Geelong Jetty, a critical asset supporting import and export activities for the Geelong Refinery and broader supply chain.\nThis is a pivotal leadership role responsible for managing a newly established jetty operations team, fostering a strong safety culture, and driving operational excellence across one of Australia's most significant energy infrastructure environments.\nResponsibilities\nBased at the Geelong Jetty in Corio, adjacent to the Geelong Refinery, you will lead a team of 15 employees and oversee daily operations across four berths, managing vessel loading and discharge activities from ship to shore through to refinery tanks and pipeline systems.\nYou will work closely with refinery operations, maintenance and asset teams, port authorities, shipping operators, and third-party stakeholders to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient marine operations while continuously improving business performance.\nAs the Jetty Operations Manager, you will:\nLead and manage all aspects of jetty operations, including import and export activities across four berths.\nEnsure the safe and efficient loading and discharge of tankers from ship to shore systems and refinery infrastructure.\nCoordinate vessel scheduling and operational activities with Geelong Port, shipping agents, and other jetty users.\nBuild, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Jetty Shift Leaders and Wharf Attendants.\nDrive a strong Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) culture across all activities.\nEnsure compliance with refinery management systems, marine terminal operating procedures, and regulatory requirements.\nSupport refinery maintenance and asset teams to safely execute maintenance activities on Viva Energy-owned jetty infrastructure.\nOptimise vessel turnaround times and loading/discharge plans to minimise demurrage and maximise operational efficiency.\nSupport emergency response activities and provide specialist jetty expertise during incident management events.\nCollaborate with Supply Chain, Marine, and Refinery Operations teams to standardise best practices and improve operational performance.\nCoach and support Shore Officers in supervising ship-to-shore transfer operations and maintaining ongoing compliance requirements.\nLeadership Responsibilities\nYou will lead:\nDirect Reports\n5 x Jetty Shift Leaders\n10 x Wharf Attendants\nIndirect Stakeholders\nContract labour providers supporting wharf operations\nShipping agents and vessel operators\nGeelongPort representatives\nMaintenance contractors and specialist service providers\n About you\nTo be successful in this role, you will bring strong leadership capability together with operational experience gained within marine terminals, refinery operations, petrochemical facilities, bulk liquids handling, pipeline operations, ports, or other high-hazard industries.\nIdeally, you will have:\nExperience as a certified Shore Officer or equivalent marine terminal operations role.\nDemonstrated experience in tanker loading and discharge operations, bulk liquid transfers, pipeline operations, or related industrial environments.\nStrong understanding of marine terminal safety, operational risk management, and regulatory compliance.\nExperience leading frontline operational teams in a 24/7 industrial environment.\nAbility to influence and coach stakeholders across multiple departments and organisations.\nStrong commitment to safety leadership and operational discipline.\nProven experience managing competing priorities and delivering operational outcomes.\nExcellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills.\nA continuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and operational excellence.\nPreferred Qualifications & Experience\nRefinery, oil and gas, petrochemical, bulk liquids, or port operations experience.\n Certified Shore Officer (or capability to obtain certification).\nPermit to Work and AGSI certification.\nOil Spill Response training (AMOSC or equivalent).\nEmergency response and firefighting training within terminal, port, or industrial environments.\nExperience conducting JHAs and risk assessments.\nKnowledge of product quality control and testing requirements.\nStrong systems capability, including SAP, JDE, tank monitoring systems, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and operational reporting tools.\nIf you're a safety-focused operational leader with marine, terminal, refinery, or bulk liquids experience and are ready to make a significant impact, we'd love to hear from you.\n About Viva Energy\nJoin a team that values diversity.
