The Senior Construction Manager is responsible for leading the design and construction of the physical structures needed to conduct Lidl US business in Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DC, MD, and VA). This includes stores, offices, and other construction projects. This role ensures projects are delivered on time and within budget, with the required quality standards, while navigating local municipal zoning, environmental regulations, and unique market constraints to meet the needs of the business.\nWhat You’ll Do\nEssential Functions\nSupervise, mentor, or manage team members as needed in accordance with Company principles and management model\nOversee the development and execution of assigned projects and initiatives in collaboration with cross department stakeholders\nSupport full entitlement, zoning, variances, site plan approvals, and due diligence processes through DC, MD, and VA municipal planning boards and environmental agencies\nManage the design process from conceptual planning through construction completion while maintaining prototypical standards\nResearch, analyze, calculate, and manage construction costs tailored to the DC, MD, and VA labor and material markets\nManage various store projects and personnel related to project bidding, contract award, store construction and project closeout/handover\nLead project team consisting of various consultants, general contractors, internal colleagues, and internal departments\nOversee quality, safety, time, and cost controls of construction projects\nCreate and monitor key performance indicator (KPI) reports\nConduct negotiations with regional manufacturers, trade subcontractors, and suppliers in order to purchase targeted construction products\nAnalyze and evaluate current processes and projects for recommended optimization\nEvaluate industry best practices and monitor developments and innovations within the retail sector particular to their business that may be beneficial to the daily operations of the organization\nEstablish design parameters based on specific DC, MD, and VA business needs and site-specific constraints (e.g., high-density parking requirements, utility infrastructure, and strict regional architectural mandates)\nPerform other duties as assigned\nWhat You’ll Need\nRequired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities\nKnowledge of construction means and methods, contract and change order negotiation, building codes, health and safety regulations and entitlement processes\nExcellent supervisory and leadership skills, with the ability to train others\nExcellent verbal and written communication skills\nExcellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills\nExcellent organizational skills and attention to detail\nExcellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills\nAbility to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate\nRequired Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or similar\n7+ years of experience in a related field\nIn lieu of degree, 10+ years of experience in related field will meet the education and related experience requirements listed above\nMust possess and maintain, or be able to obtain, a current, valid US driver’s license\nPreferred Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience\nExperience managing commercial/retail build-outs in the DC-Baltimore metropolitan area highly preferred\nPhysical Job Requirements\nProlonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer\nMust be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times\nTravel Requirements\nThis position commutes heavily between regional field offices, existing store locations, future real estate sites, active construction zones, and regional distribution hubs up to 60% of the time\nThis position requires overnight domestic travel up to 50% of the time \nWhat You’ll Receive\nAt Lidl, we know that in order for our people to do their best, they must be at their best.
