This is an important role in patient care and our business and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives. \n\nStatus: Casual (Float)\nShifts: As required, Monday- Saturday, 06:30- 17:00\nNumber of positions: 1Start Date: 9 November 2026Union: This is part of the BCGEU collective agreement\n\nThis vacancy is for an existing position. \nYour responsibilities will include:\nGreet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.\nPerform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, 24- hour blood pressure monitoring, and perform ECG tracings.\nPerform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation. \nMaintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests. \nComplete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.\nPrepare specimens for transportation and testing.\n\nWhat you will bring to the role:\nCompletion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent related experience such as working as a healthcare professional with previous training or experience in phlebotomy, intravenous infusion and/or intravenous therapy (e.g. nurses, infusion therapist, cardiac technologist etc.).\nECG training or experience is an asset.\nProficient data entry skills.\nExcellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.\nAbility to work independently and as part of a team. \nAbility to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality. \nAbility to effectively relate to patients and health care providers.\n\nAdditional requirements:\nWork between 20 to 37.5 hours per week. \nBe available to work various shifts Sunday through Saturday with 2 days off each week. \nWork a variety of shifts and hours between 5:45 am to 6:45 pm. Shifts range from 4 to 7.5 hours in length. \nMay be required to work split shifts and additional hours before or after a scheduled shift up to 7.5 hours on any given day to meet operational needs. \nIf a shift has not been pre-assigned, you can expect to be called by the Scheduling Department between the hours of 5:15 am to 9:00 am. Please note it is essential that you are prepared and ready to report to work as early as 5:45 am. \nShifts and schedules are subject to change in order to meet operational requirements. You may be required to change your work assignments, location, hours and/or days of work. If a change is required, we will endeavor to provide you with as much notice as practical. \nIf there is a bona fide reason why you cannot work a particular shift, please notify your supervisor with as much advance notice as possible. \nAll Float employees will be assigned a primary geographic region, i.e. Vancouver. Float employees are expected to work outside of their assigned geographic region when required. \nMileage will be paid when assigned to work outside of the assigned geographic region.
