This role will evaluate and shape end-to-end system designs so they align with CVS Health security, compliance, operational, and resiliency standards while also supporting business scalability and delivery outcomes. The engineer will partner closely with application teams, Enterprise Architecture, Security, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, and Operations to review business requirements, logical architectures, network flows, platform dependencies, and solution implementation patterns.\nPrimary Responsibilities\nLead system design and architecture reviews for enterprise applications, platforms, and shared services.\n\nTranslate business requirements into scalable, secure, resilient, and supportable end-to-end system designs.\n\nEvaluate logical architectures against CVS Health approved patterns for ingress, secure hub routing, managed firewall traversal, API gateway usage, identity, and private connectivity.\n\nGuide engineering teams on approved hosting models across Kubernetes clusters, web applications, and shared cloud platforms.\n\nAssess application architectures against resiliency tier expectations including RTO, RPO, replication, failover, AirGap backup, observability, and operational recovery readiness.\n\nValidate use of approved cloud-native, managed, and SaaS services across Azure, GCP, AWS, and on-prem environments.\n\nProvide architecture gap assessments, remediation plans, and target-state recommendations for application teams and engineering leadership.\n\nDrive system engineering decisions across infrastructure, application, integration, data, network, identity, and observability domains.\n\nCreate and evolve reference architectures, reusable engineering blueprints, and architecture review frameworks for the Solution Engineering team.\n\nPartner with Security, Compliance, Enterprise Architecture, and platform teams on standards adoption, exception handling, and risk-based design decisions.\n\nMentor engineers and architects in strong system design, resiliency engineering, and enterprise solution pattern usage.\n\nSupport AI-enabled automation of architecture reviews using structured rules, multimodal inputs, and knowledge-based recommendations.\n\nRequired Qualifications\n15+ years of experience in software engineering, system engineering, platform engineering, distributed systems, or enterprise architecture.\n\nDeep expertise in system design for large-scale enterprise applications, service-oriented systems, and distributed platforms.\n\nDeep expertise in system engineering across infrastructure, networking, security, application, integration, and operations domains.\n\nStrong experience designing and reviewing cloud-native and hybrid architectures across Azure, GCP, AWS, and/or on-prem environments.\n\nStrong understanding of enterprise security patterns including edge ingress, load balancing, API gateways, network segmentation, firewall controls, identity management and private service connectivity.\n\nStrong knowledge of resiliency engineering, including high availability, disaster recovery, backup and restore, replication, failover, and operational recovery planning.\n\nExperience with Kubernetes, web-hosted application platforms, APIs, managed data services, and service-to-service integration patterns.\n\nAbility to evaluate ambiguous business and technical requirements, identify architectural risk, and provide clear engineering guidance.\n\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, including executive-ready architecture assessments and technical recommendations.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience in healthcare or another highly regulated enterprise environment.\n\nExperience with enterprise identity and authorization patterns such as Azure AD or Entra ID, managed identity, service principals, OAuth 2.0, and external identity providers.\n\nExperience with API management platforms such as Azure API Management, Apigee X, Kong, or comparable gateway technologies.\n\nExperience with architecture governance, approved service catalogues, and cloud adoption guardrails.\n\nExperience building or supporting AI-enabled engineering workflows, architecture assessment platforms, or recommendation automation capabilities.\n\nFamiliarity with vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation, and knowledge-driven advisory systems.\n\nExperience with Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, or similar enterprise workflow and documentation platforms.\n\nEducation:Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.\nPay RangeThe typical pay range for this role is:$175,100.00 - $334,750.00This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
