With 40 programs, LifeMoves gives our neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to call home while providing intensive, customized case management through site-based programs and community outreach.\nPOSITION PURPOSE\nThe Assistant Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer. As our Assistant Controller, you won't just be managing books, you will be a strategic partner to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer in scaling our financial operations. You will lead a high-performing accounting team, modernize our reporting systems, and ensure that our financial integrity remains a competitive advantage as we navigate complex regulatory landscapes.The role involves managing the accounting team, overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in maintaining strong internal controls and supporting strategic financial planning.\nESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES\nAct as the subject matter expert for federal, state, and local regulations, with a specific focus on CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) compliance for federal grants.\n\nManage and mentor our accounting staff, providing the training and development needed to help build a sector leading finance team.\n\nOversee month-end and year-end close processes to ensure the Board and senior leadership have accurate, timely, and actionable financial data.\n\nSupport the Controller in managing daily operations, including AP, AR, Payroll, and the General Ledger.\n\nOversee the full lifecycle of public funding agreements, including the rigorous monitoring of sub-recipient records ensuring all expenditures across interim housing and supportive services meet the \"allowability, allocability, and reasonableness\" standards defined under 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance)\n\nLead the preparation and submission of the Indirect Cost Rate Proposal to the organization’s cognizant agency, including the development of supporting schedules, rate information narratives, and the Certificate of Indirect Costs.\n\nDrive the implementation and continuous improvement of financial systems and processes to increase organizational agility.\n\nCollaborate across teams to translate complex accounting principles into clear insights for non-finance professionals.\n\nAct as the primary lead for the Annual Single Audit under Uniform Guidance, ensuring the accuracy of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards and maintaining the internal control documentation required to safeguard federal funding.\n\nContribute to the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and long-term strategic financial analysis.\n\nQualifications\nEDUCATION\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification highly preferred.\n\nEXPERIENCE\n6 to 8 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including at least 1 to 2 years in leadership.\n\nDeep knowledge of GAAP and a high degree of comfort with complex financial reporting.\n\nExperience in the non-profit sector and a strong understanding of federal grant requirements (CFR) is a major advantage.\n\nExcellent analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems and make data-driven decisions.\n\nThe ability to thrive in a fast-paced Silicon Valley environment with changing priorities and tight deadlines.\n\nCommitted to cultivating a culture of continuous improvement, inclusivity, and shared purpose, ensuring individuals feel valued while driving results.\n\nProficiency in modern accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or Sage Intacct).
