Lightspeed Commerce is a Canadian company founded in Montreal in 2005 that sells point-of-sale and commerce software to independent retailers and restaurants, together with the payment processing that now generates most of its revenue. Its strategic shift has been from charging software subscriptions to taking a share of the transactions running through that software, which raises revenue per customer considerably but ties it to their trading volumes. Headquartered in Montreal and listed in Toronto and New York, it grew through a long acquisition programme and has since been consolidating those platforms and narrowing its focus to retail and hospitality.
