Responsible for supporting the sourcing and procurement of production materials, raw materials, fabricated components, equipment, and services. This role may include responsibility for metals and other commodity-based purchases requiring an understanding of supplier markets, material specifications, cost drivers, market trends, and supply chain risks. May give some guidance and direction to other Buyers and clerks.\nResponsibility\nEnsure compliance with all legislative requirements in the facility’s geographic location and:\nThe Global Operating System Plays;\n\nOHSAS 18001: Health and Safety management system standard;\n\nISO 14001: Environmental Management system standard;\n\nTS 16949 Technical Specification Management and Linamar Quality Basics system standards.\n\nPurchase general and specialized equipment, materials or business services for use or for further processing by the company.\n\nAssess requirements and develop specifications for equipment, materials and supplies to be purchased.\n\nInvite tenders, consult with suppliers and review quotations\n\nDetermine or negotiate contract terms and conditions, award supplier contracts or recommend contract awards\n\nEstablish delivery schedules, monitor progress and contact clients and suppliers to resolve problems\n\nInvolved in business unit to resolve quality, commercial or servicing issues with suppliers.\n\nOngoing negotiations with supplier contracts to ensure servicing incentives are identified.\n\nParticipate with plants to identify strategic suppliers and purchasing initiatives.\n\nOutsourcing projects which include breaking down components to establish target costs, processing RFQ’s, request for proposals and sourcing new suppliers.\n\nDevelop and maintain strategic supplier relationships with manufacturers, mills, service centers, distributors, and processors as required.\nSource and negotiate production materials, including raw materials and commodity-based products, ensuring competitive pricing, quality, delivery, and supply continuity.\nMonitor commodity and material market conditions, cost drivers, lead times, industry trends, and capacity constraints that may impact purchasing decisions.\nCollaborate with engineering, quality, and operations teams to evaluate material specifications, sourcing alternatives, and cost reduction opportunities.\nSupport supplier negotiations involving commercial terms, material surcharges, market adjustments, freight costs, and long-term supply agreements.\nIdentify and mitigate supply chain risks related to material availability, geopolitical events, tariff impacts, and market volatility.\nAcademic/Educational Requirements\nA bachelor’s degree or college diploma in business, materials management, or related field experience.\n\nPMAC certification or minimum two years equivalent in purchasing and/or production planning/inventory control background.\n\nRequired Skills/Experience\nEssential SkillsReading: 3\n\nDocument Use: 3\n\nNumeracy: 3\n\nThree to five years minimum experience in procurement, sourcing, or commodity management within a manufacturing environment.\n\nExperience purchasing production materials, raw materials, fabricated components, commodity-based products, and/or metal products would be considered an asset.\n\nExperience working directly with manufacturers, mills, service centers, distributors, or processors is preferred.\n\nStrong understanding of supplier markets, material cost drivers, commercial negotiations, and supply chain risk management.\n\nAbility to interpret engineering drawings, material specifications, certifications, and quality requirements.\n\nExperience purchasing steel, aluminum, stainless steel, specialty alloys, titanium, castings, forgings or other engineered materialsan asset.\n\nFamiliarity with mill-direct and service-center procurement models is an asset.\n\nUnderstanding of commodity-driven pricing structures, including raw material surcharges, alloy premiums, market indices, and contractual pricing mechanisms is an asset.\n\nKnowledge of material certifications, mill test reports (MTRs) and industry specifications is an asset.\n\nAbility to effectively communicate with suppliers regarding material grades, processing capabilities, lead times, capacity constraints, and market conditionsis an asset.\n\nExperience supporting strategic sourcing initiatives and supplier development activitiesis an asset.\n\nWhat Linamar Has to Offer\nCompetitive Compensation\n\nEmployee Benefits package includes but not limited to, Drug, Dental & Vision etc.\n\nOpportunities for career advancement.\n\nSustainability Counsel\n\nCommunity based outreach supporting both local and global initiatives and charities.\n\nDiscounts for local vendors and events, including auto supplier discounts.\n\nAbout Us\nLinamar Corporation is a Canadian-founded global manufacturer, renowned for its advanced engineering and innovative product development across diverse industries and markets.
