Capable to work under pressure, independently, and without supervision. The Assistant Engineer works 12 hours per day: approximately 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off rotational schedule.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES\nRepair and Maintenance:\nOperates and maintains the ship’s propulsion system\nOperates and maintains the electrical generation and distribution system, including emergency power.\nOperates and maintains potable water and auto chlorination system.\nOperates and maintains black water/gray water/waste tanks, treatment, and testing programs.\nOperates and maintains HVAC and refrigeration systems.\nPerforms routine maintenance checks and keeps records of jobs performed. \nKeeps the Chief Engineer informed of all maintenance and repairs that have been done.\nHelps with engineering, deck, and hotel preventative maintenance programs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.\nCompletes maintenance and repair tasks as requested in the Cabin Maintenance Notebook.\nPerforms hotel maintenance tasks as needed.\nParticipates in shipyard availabilities.\nAssists Chief Engineer in all bunkering operations.\nSupport engineering projects by applying engineering techniques; conducting inspections and preparing reports as needed.\nMaintain essential communication with the engineering team and the Captain of the vessel.\nAdministrative:\nUses NSE to update vessel maintenance records for engineering work items. \nAssists the Chief Engineer with inventories. \nOperates onboard computer using standard and customized software applications. \nMaintains compliance of Technical systems onboard with the CDC Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) and Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) regulations. \nFamiliar with international, federal, state, and local regulations regarding environmental regulations and works with the bridge team to maintain compliance.
