Linklaters is a prominent multinational law firm and a member of the prestigious Magic Circle, providing strategic legal advice to the world's leading companies, financial institutions, and governments. Headquartered in London, United Kingdom, the firm operates an extensive network of offices across major financial centers in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. It specializes in a broad spectrum of practice areas, including corporate and mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and dispute resolution, to deliver innovative solutions for complex, high-stakes legal challenges.

You'll start your career in one of our practice areas. Most people are offered their first choice and, because we have strong teams across the board, you can confidently choose the practice area that excites you. You'll have access to The Practice Diploma Programme and development programmes to help you build your skills. As a junior associate your time will be focused on developing your technical and commercial expertise, learning how to run matters and immersing yourself in the firm’s ways of working and values.

At this stage of your career your responsibilities will be as follows:

Technical Capability

  • Apply legal principles relevant to commercial, contract and other relevant law.
  • Give technically accurate, commercial advice, taking the client’s perspective into account.
  • Use the firm’s legal sources and research tools to produce comprehensive research, identifying and analysing issues correctly.
  • Produce grammatically accurate documentation of the highest quality.

Client Development

  • Develop an understanding of business dynamics and the market in which your client operates and keep up-to-date with developments in client organisations.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to client requests, adapting your style and approach to suit the client’s preferred ways of working.
  • Promote the firm externally (e.g. support recruitment events and CSR activities) and contribute to marketing publications and pitches.
  • Develop your network with internal colleagues and your external peer group.

Work Management

  • Take personal responsibility for understanding your brief and for delivering on time and to exceptional standards.
  • Manage and file documents effectively, keeping accurate records and attendance notes.
  • Maximise your productivity by keeping yourself occupied with client or other activities and by using all the firm’s resources.

Working with Others

  • Actively involve and encourage others to participate and to share their opinions, questioning and listening to what colleagues have to say.
  • Establish constructive and collaborative working relationships.
  • Act in line with our values; showing respect and courtesy to others, acting with integrity and bringing positivity and enthusiasm to the team.
  • Communicate clearly, calmly and concisely, without using technical jargon.
  • Raise new ideas, embrace continuous improvements and technological advancements.

Knowledge & Learning

  • Utilise the firm’s know-how and precedents effectively and intelligently and contribute to the firm’s knowledge bank by helping with research and writing knowhow documentation.
  • Take responsibility for developing your own expertise and engage colleagues to support your career development.
  • Seek and act on feedback and give continuous and constructive feedback to others.
