Our engineering team works in a fast-paced R&D environment, taking innovative concepts from initial design through prototyping, testing, and development.\nPosition Overview\nLiquidPiston is seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer II to support the design, development, fabrication, and testing of electrical systems and electronic hardware for our next-generation engines and power systems.\nThe ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in analog and digital circuit design, PCB development, and electrical troubleshooting. This position requires someone who is comfortable working independently on engineering designs while also being actively involved in prototype fabrication, hardware debugging, and testing.\nWe're looking for a self-starter who enjoys solving technical challenges, working with physical hardware, and collaborating with engineers and technicians across multiple disciplines.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign and analyze analog and digital circuits for electrical and electronic systems.\nDevelop electrical schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and supporting technical documentation.\nDesign and develop printed circuit boards using OrCAD, Altium Designer, or similar software.\nPerform hands-on electrical troubleshooting and debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment.\nAssemble, modify, and repair electronic hardware, including prototype fabrication activities, wire harnessing, and electrical subassemblies. \nSupport soldering and PCB rework including surface-mount and through hole components.\nIntegrate electrical components and control systems, including servos, analog and digital sensors, and thermocouples.\nSupport electrical system integration with mechanical assemblies and engine test equipment.\nAssist with prototype testing, including test setup, equipment configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.\nDevelop and execute test plans, collect test data, and analyze results to identify potential improvements.\nInvestigate electrical hardware failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.\nCollaborate with mechanical, controls, and test engineers throughout the design and development process.\nMaintain accurate engineering documentation and communicate technical findings to the team.\nTake ownership of assigned engineering projects while supporting hands-on fabrication and testing activities as needed.\nRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.\nExperience with analog and digital circuit design and analysis.\nProficiency in electrical schematic generation, PCB design, BOM creation, and wiring diagrams.\nExperience using PCB design software such as OrCAD, Altium Designer, or similar tools.\nStrong hands-on electrical troubleshooting experience using common laboratory equipment, including power supplies, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.\nExperience soldering through-hole and surface-mount electronic components.\nFamiliarity with soldering irons, hot-air soldering stations, and PCB preheaters.\nGeneral understanding of electrical controls and the integration of servos, analog and digital sensors, thermocouples, and related components.\nAbility to independently perform electrical design work and troubleshoot technical problems.\nStrong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.\nWillingness to participate directly in fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and testing activities.\nAbility to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced engineering environment.\nBenefits & Perks:PTO: We value work-life balance and encourage time to rest and recharge. \nHealth & Wellness: Comprehensive medical and voluntary dental, and vision coverage - you choose what works best for you.\n Equity Participation: Employes may receive RSUs (Restricted Stock Units).\n 401(k) Match: We offer a 401k w/100% matching up to 3% of your salary and then 50% of contributions between 3-5% after 1 year of employment. \nCareer Growth: Ongoing training, mentorship, and learning opportunities to accelerate your growth.\nOur Culture:At LiquidPiston, we embrace challenges, move fast, and celebrate curiosity.
