We are a mission-driven team of innovators determined to push the boundaries of energy and propulsion.\nPosition Overview\nWe are seeking talented and motivated Engine Design Engineers to join our growing team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing groundbreaking engine systems and components-from initial concept through prototyping, validation, and production. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, analyze, and optimize high-performance subsystems with a focus on efficiency, weight, durability, manufacturability, and cost-effectiveness.\nKey Responsibilities\nCollaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define system and component-level requirements aligned with overall engine architecture and performance goals.\n\nDesign, package, and integrate components into the complete engine assembly, ensuring alignment, mechanical integrity, and functional performance.\n\nConduct feasibility studies and tradeoff analyses; develop conceptual and detailed designs for engine subsystems.\n\nCreate 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks; release designs for prototyping and production.\n\nPerform or lead design validation activities, including FEA, thermal, and vibration analyses.\n\nDrive virtual simulation efforts and support the use of analysis tools for thermodynamic and mechanical performance modeling.\n\nMaintain accurate documentation including BOMs, engineering change orders, technical reports, and design specifications.\n\nSupport design-for-manufacturing (DFM), quality assurance, and serviceability initiatives in collaboration with other functions.\n\nIdentify and resolve design issues quickly and effectively, driving continuous improvement and root-cause solutions.\n\nPlan and execute design validation processes including D/PFMEA, DVPR, and design reviews.\n\nSupport sourcing efforts and supplier interface activities related to component manufacturing and quality control.\n\nParticipate in and lead technical presentations to internal stakeholders and external partners.\n\nYou Are:\nA strong mechanical engineer with direct experience in engine or complex mechanical system design.\n\nCapable of managing the full lifecycle of components-from concept through post-production support.\n\nA hands-on problem solver with strong analytical and creative thinking skills.\n\nPassionate about innovation, with a practical, execution-focused mindset.\n\nHighly collaborative, but also able to work independently with minimal supervision.\n\nTechnically deep, with knowledge of rotary or combustion engines, thermofluid systems, and mechanical integration challenges.\n\nProficient in CAD and simulation tools-SolidWorks, FEA, and engine modeling software (e.g., GT-Power or AVL) a plus.\n\nAn excellent communicator, with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.\n\nQualifications\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.\n\n3+ years of experience in engine design, preferably in automotive, aerospace, marine, or power generation industries.\n\nWorking knowledge of thermodynamics, combustion, and fluid mechanics.\n\nExperience with engine performance modeling tools (GT-Power, AVL, ANSYS, etc.).\n\nStrong understanding of DFM principles and production processes.\n\nHands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and data analysis.\n\nFamiliarity with product development tools including MS Project, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.\n\nBenefits\nFlexible PTO to encourage work-life balance and personal well-being\nComprehensive healthcare coverage: medical, dental, and vision plans\nEquity participation: RSUs for all permanent employees\n 401(k) with match: 100% up to 3%, plus 50% match for 3-5% range\nGrowth opportunities: Mentorship, training, and leadership development\nOur Culture\nAt LiquidPiston, we challenge convention and solve hard problems.
