They're involved in building, testing, troubleshooting, and improving the technology they develop.\nIf you enjoy solving challenging engineering problems, taking ownership of your designs, and seeing your work come to life, LiquidPiston could be a great fit.\nAbout the Role\nLiquidPiston is looking for a Genset Mechanical Integration Engineer to support the development of our next-generation engine-driven generator systems.\nIn this role, you'll be responsible for designing and integrating mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical components into compact, reliable, and manufacturable genset assemblies.\nYou'll work closely with our Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Testing teams to develop innovative packaging solutions for power electronics, control units, sensors, batteries, wiring, connectors, and generator hardware.\nThis is a highly hands-on engineering opportunity. You'll be involved in everything from early-stage system layouts and detailed CAD design to prototype assembly, troubleshooting, and testing.\nWe're looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of making complex systems fit together, understands how designs translate into physical hardware, and can balance performance, manufacturability, durability, and cost.\nKey Responsibilities\nDevelop and evaluate innovative mechanical designs to improve the packaging, durability, manufacturability, and weight of LiquidPiston's rotary engine-based gensets.\nDesign mounting structures, enclosures, brackets, and mechanical interfaces for electrical and electromechanical components, including power electronics, controllers, batteries, sensors, wiring, and generator hardware.\nCreate detailed 3D part and assembly models using SolidWorks, including production-ready engineering drawings.\nSupport Sr. integration engineers manage BOM’s as designs move from concept thru design, production, testing, and revision. \nSupport early-stage genset architecture and system layout development, ensuring efficient integration of mechanical and electrical subsystems.\nWork closely with Electrical and Controls Engineering teams to package electrical systems into compact, functional, and serviceable assemblies.\nDevelop packaging solutions that account for space constraints, thermal management, vibration, accessibility, manufacturability, and environmental requirements.\nPerform component- and system-level engineering analysis using hand calculations, simulation tools, and experimental data.\nSupport hands-on prototype builds, assembly, integration, and troubleshooting, working directly with engineers and technicians.\nParticipate in genset testing, evaluate results, and incorporate lessons learned into design improvements.\nCollaborate with suppliers, manufacturers, and machine shops to develop practical, cost-effective solutions.\nParticipate in design reviews, identify potential design risks, and contribute to continuous product improvements.\nCommunicate technical ideas, design decisions, and test results clearly to engineering teams and company leadership.\n Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.\n3+ years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or electromechanical system integration.\nStrong proficiency in SolidWorks, including complex assemblies, detailed part modeling (sheet metal design experience a plus), and engineering drawings.\nExperience designing mechanical components, mounting structures, enclosures, or integrated assemblies.\nUnderstanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5 preferred), engineering tolerances, material selection, and manufacturing processes.\nExperience integrating mechanical and electrical components into complete systems or products.\nAbility to perform engineering calculations and evaluate designs for structural integrity, vibration, thermal considerations, and manufacturability.\nExperience supporting prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and design iterations.\nStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering disciplines.\nComfortable working in a fast-paced R&D environment where designs evolve and engineers take ownership of their work\nBenefits & Perks:PTO: We value work-life balance and encourage time to rest and recharge. \nHealth & Wellness: Comprehensive medical and voluntary dental, and vision coverage - you choose what works best for you.\n Equity Participation: Employes may receive RSUs (Restricted Stock Units).\n 401(k) Match: We offer a 401k w/100% matching up to 3% of your salary and then 50% of contributions between 3-5% after 1 year of employment. \nCareer Growth: Ongoing training, mentorship, and learning opportunities to accelerate your growth.\nOur Culture:At LiquidPiston, we embrace challenges, move fast, and celebrate curiosity.
