Provides hospital personnel and all callers with prompt, efficient processing of incoming and outgoing calls. Utilizes best practice to fully optimize organ and tissue referral and donation potential. Approaches families regarding the process of donation. Obtains consent from the family for tissue donation after presenting the donation option. Coordinates tissue allocation after screening for medical suitability. Supports and fosters the mission of the organization and its commitment to organ and tissue donation. This is a Work From Home position.\nResponsibilities\nAnswers incoming calls and communicates non-donor related messages to appropriate personnel.\nCollects hospital and patient information and pre-screening criteria on all incoming donor-related calls.\nEvaluates incoming organ, tissue and eye/cornea referral calls for donor suitability and advises hospital staff of patient’s eligibility for donation. Provides instruction on next steps in the referral process.\nImmediately directs organ referral calls to Case Developement Department.\nMay receive training in offering families the opportunity to donation. Will conduct initial stages of approaches until further experience is achieved.\nMaintains consent and approach levels consistent with at least 85% of departmental goals. Obtains and documents extensive medical/social history screenings utilizing information from medical records, lab and diagnostic tests, med/soc provided by next of kin and hospital personnel.\nSecures permission of county coroner or medical examiner if necessary, before proceeding with donation.\nPlaces status follow- up calls to hospital staff on pending tissue referrals.\nCoordinates the offer of suitable tissues to appropriate Tissue Banks in accordance with established protocols.\nNotifies Tissue Recovery Team Leader and appropriate staff regarding Tissue consent and donation.\nDispatches appropriate staff for surgical recovery of tissue donor cases in accordance with established protocols.\nEnters initial referral information into computerized database and reviews entries for accuracy. Completes all necessary documentation within established timeframes. Processes daily referral log.\nProvides updates to the lead of the shift regarding case updates and status.\nProvides proper case turnover assignments.\nMakes an initial quality assurance check of charts compiled. Files chart in appropriate place. Works with Quality Systems department to ensure all necessary information is provided.\nAll employees, at every level, are empowered and expected to be committed to participate in continuous process improvement.\nMaintains great relationships and communication with the Medical Examiners and Hospitals. Documents communication thoroughly. Following up for holds with Medical Examiners. Conduct updates with the hospital according and confirm location of potential donors.\nOther duties may be assigned.\nQualifications\nQUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully as a DONOR COORDINATOR, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nEDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:\nBachelor’s degree in a health related field and/or an Associate’s degree with one to three years related work experience with families and patients in grief/crisis situations required.\nSensitivity to grieving families and the ability to provide support and information to those families facing the decision to donate is required.\nStrong knowledge of medical terminology required. Must be proficient in computer usage.\nMust have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be customer-service oriented.\nMust have the ability to make sound clinical assessments in crucial situations.\nAn understanding of and commitment to the organ and tissue donation process is essential.\nLANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in oneonone and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.\nMATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.\nREASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to make sounds assessments in a fast- paced environment.\nOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be proficient in computers and have the ability to work with computer software. Ability to work with detailed data.
