Responsibilities

LMI is seeking a skilled Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, automate, operate, and sustain the foundational computing platforms supporting enterprise applications, data, and mission services across a network of new and existing secure facilities. The Infrastructure Engineer will ensure that physical, virtual, and cloud-based environments remain reliable, secure, scalable, recoverable, and supportable. This is an execution-oriented role supporting a fast-paced, milestone-driven prototype effort with near-term deliverable commitments. Success requires strong compute, storage, operating-system, virtualization, platform, automation, and lifecycle-management fundamentals rather than expertise limited to a specific vendor.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Enumerate and document the infrastructure baseline across geographically dispersed sites, including compute, storage, operating systems, virtualization, cloud services, backup, recovery, and platform dependencies.
  • Design current-state, transition-state, and target-state infrastructure for secure facilities, data centers, cloud environments, and operational sites.
  • Engineer physical, virtual, containerized, and cloud-based platforms based on mission, performance, availability, security, and recovery requirements.
  • Establish platform standards, configuration baselines, reusable patterns, implementation procedures, and lifecycle roadmaps.
  • Implement secure configurations, patching, hardening, encryption, access controls, and privileged-administration practices in coordination with cybersecurity personnel.
  • Develop and validate backup, restoration, disaster-recovery, and continuity procedures for mission-critical services and data.
  • Monitor infrastructure health, performance, capacity, utilization, configuration compliance, and emerging lifecycle constraints.
  • Diagnose complex infrastructure issues involving compute, memory, storage, operating systems, virtualization, cloud services, and supporting dependencies.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, patching, testing, monitoring, scaling, backup, recovery, and compliance using repeatable infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management practices.

FOUNDATIONAL SKILLS

  • Compute, storage, operating systems, virtualization, containers, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Platform architecture, availability, scalability, performance, and capacity engineering.
  • Backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations.
  • Identity, authentication, authorization, encryption, and privileged-access fundamentals.
  • Secure configuration, patch management, system hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Infrastructure monitoring, telemetry, logging, and performance analysis.
  • Network, distributed-system, application-hosting, and data-platform fundamentals.
  • Automation, scripting, APIs, configuration management, infrastructure as code, and version control.
  • Configuration, change, release, incident, problem, capacity, and technology-lifecycle management.

Location: This position is based in the Washington, DC metro area, with travel to program locations.

Travel: This position requires approximately 25-50% travel to support activities across multiple program locations.

Qualifications

Required:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
    • 8+ years of experience designing, implementing, operating, or sustaining enterprise infrastructure, including in classified environments.
    • Strong understanding of compute, storage, operating systems, virtualization, cloud, backup, recovery, and platform-security principles.
    • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across multiple technical domains.
    • Experience engineering capabilities for SCIF or other accredited classified environments, including multi-enclave systems and security boundaries.
    • Working knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (NIST SP 800-37 / 800-53) and experience advising senior leaders.
    • Active Top Secret Clearance (SCI eligibility) required.
    • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing. Ability to develop papers, reports, and briefings targeted to senior decision makers.

Nice to Have:

    • Relevant infrastructure, cloud, systems engineering, automation, or cybersecurity certification.
    • Experience integrating cross-domain solutions (CDS) into enterprise architectures.
    • Experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) facilities, systems, or environments.
    • Experience designing or standing up network or security operations centers (NOC/SOC), including 24x7 coverage models.

TS/SCI clearance with SAP eligibility is required for this position. TS/SCI clearance with SAP eligibility is required for this position. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. LMI will only consider applicants with current security clearances. Please note that only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
