Traffic Engineer (EIT)

We are looking for an early-career Traffic Engineer to join our growing Traffic Engineering & Planning team in Dallas, Texas. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of traffic engineering experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience performing capacity analyses and preparing technical traffic engineering reports.

In this position, the candidate will:

• Perform traffic engineering analyses, including capacity and level-of-service analyses, traffic impact studies, operational assessments, and safety evaluations under the guidance of a senior engineer.
• Collect, organize, and evaluate traffic data from sources such as traffic counts, field observations, crash data, and roadway inventories.
• Prepare technical reports, memoranda, exhibits, presentations, and other project documentation that communicate analysis methods, findings, and recommendations.
• Assist with transportation modeling, traffic simulation, signal timing evaluations, and traffic operations studies using industry-standard software.
• Prepare calculations, preliminary plans, drawings, and design documents related to traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and temporary traffic control under the guidance of a senior engineer.
• Apply local, state, and federal traffic engineering standards, manuals, and design criteria to assigned work.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners, technicians, and other project team members to develop transportation solutions and deliver successful projects.
• Conduct field reviews and site observations to support traffic studies, design activities, and project development.
• Perform quality-control reviews of assigned work.
• Developing traffic management plans, and vehicular queue analyses.
• Perform other traffic engineering-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications for this role include:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
• At least one year of relevant traffic engineering experience is required. More experienced candidates are welcome to apply and may be considered for positions aligned with their qualifications and experience level.
• Passage of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Understanding of traffic engineering principles, analytical methods, and applicable design standards.
• Strong preference for experience preparing technical traffic engineering reports, studies, or memoranda.
• Strong preference for experience performing traffic capacity and level-of-service analyses.
• Familiarity with traffic engineering analysis and design software.
• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly and accurately.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation
• Valid Driving License

Additional qualifications that are helpful:

• Experience with Synchro, HCS or similar traffic capacity analysis software.
• Experience preparing traffic impact analyses, operational studies, or other technical traffic engineering reports.
• Experience with traffic simulation or modeling software such as Vissim or SIDRA Intersection.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, OpenRoads, or ArcGIS Pro.
• Familiarity with traffic safety analysis and crash data evaluation.
• Knowledge of applicable traffic engineering standards and guidance, including the MUTCD and state or local agency requirements.
• Experience supporting projects for public agencies, municipalities, or private-sector development clients.
