Prepares specifications, evaluates vendors, and analyzes test reports.\nRole:\nThis role is important in fulfilling the strategic roadmap goals of Lockheed Martin Canada Inc. (Lockheed Martin). As part of the Engineering team, you will be directly involved in translating customer requirements into best-in-class product solutions. These resultant products/systems will serve to maintain Lockheed Martin 's robust position in the Naval market space. As an experienced engineer, your role will include project experiences designed to enrich your understanding of the value proposition that Lockheed Martin provides to our customers. You will be able to lead by demonstrating engineering curiosity in customer/internal stakeholder requirements, creating work estimates, proposing improvements, conducting risk analysis and chairing design reviews to optimize solutions prior to operations hand-off. Additionally, you will be leading small teams of peer engineers and reporting on goal progress.\nTechnical tasks:\nMechanical design - Produce requirements-driven Computer Aided Design (CAD) model solutions to be productized for naval environments\nPhysical analysis - Optimize structural design margins with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools to ensure solutions are suitable for use\nThermal design - Optimize mechanical designs considering thermal constraints for cabinet rack-mounted equipment\nRadio Frequency (RF) design - Design systems considering conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility\nTest planning - based on requirements develop verification plans to evaluate lifecycle performance of equipment/systems\nPeer reviewing - Ensure work products effectively meet requirements, conform to standards and eliminate defects earlier\nRequirements reviews- Conduct reviews of internal customer/stakeholder requirements ensuring they are objective and have a clearly defined achievement metric\nDesign specification authoring - Complete specifications detailing design rationale employed to effectively meet requirements\nRisk analysis - Assess risks/opportunities that may be realized during the development lifecycle.\nBasic Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Engineering or the Physical Sciences from an accredited college or university or its equivalent and usually a minimum of five (5) years relevant work experience or a Master's degree and three (3) years’ experience or in an entry level position with a PhD in a technical or scientific field.\nDesired Skills\nResponsibilities:\nCustomer focus: Able to distinguish between the needs of internal customers and external customers to deliver on requirements. Seek clarity and flow down of priorities against timelines. Identifies risk, likelihood and impacts to progress. Socialize/create mitigation strategies\n Operational Excellence: Lead design reviews and documents comments to ensure production stakeholders/customers are provided with concise documentation on product designs including Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) evaluations\nContinuous Improvement: Test opportunities to improve product development processes. Socialize improvement initiative for stakeholder feedback\n Measuring/Tracking Progress: Mentor junior staff on estimating and is accountable for estimates of work progress tracking. May include Control Account Manager (CAM) role on projects\n Adaptive Leadership: Reacts to change by seeking, analyzing, testing and implementing solution alternatives collected by active team participation. Build individual and collective team credibility with a rigorous, qualitative and consistent delivery of output.
