Standard Job Description Manages the analysis, research, design and development materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Oversees the application of principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Monitors the development, analysis and application of material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. Insures the review and approval of subcontractor material processing procedures. Manages the activities and staffing of subordinate managers, associate managers, senior-level exempt professionals and non-employee contractors. Frequently
