In addition to deep technical expertise, this role requires strong business acumen-the ability to translate capability data into strategic sourcing decisions that drive cost savings, revenue protection, and market competitiveness.\nThis role partners closely with Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Quality, and Operations to evaluate machining capabilities, resolve technical issues, reduce cost and risk, and ensure suppliers can meet quality, delivery, and performance requirements.This position bridges the gap between engineering intent and supplier execution, providing hands-on machining expertise to support supplier selection, development, and ongoing performance.\nSupplier Technical Evaluation & Selection\nLead technical assessments of machining suppliers, including:\no CNC milling/turning (3-5 axis)\no Complex tolerances & GD&T\no Materials (aluminum, titanium, steel, Inconel, composites, etc.)\nSupport RFQ/RFP reviews by:\no Review drawings for machining types\no Match suppliers to drawing requirements, quality requirements, volume and program needs\no Manufacturability concerns\no Process assumptions\no Cycle times and cost drivers\no Support PO Kickoffs and drawing reviews with the supplier\nParticipate in source selection decisions as the machining technical authority\nSupplier Development & Performance\nIdentify capability gaps in supplier machining processes and recommend corrective actions\nSupport suppliers with:\no Process improvements request that requires Lockheed attention\nPartner with Supplier Quality on:\no Root cause analysis (RCCA)\no Corrective action plans (CAPA)\no First Article Inspection (FAI) readiness\nCost, Risk & Manufacturability\nDrive cost reduction initiatives through:\no Design for Manufacturability (DFM)\no Alternate process recommendations\no Alternate source recommendations\no Make vs. buy analysis\nAssess and mitigate supply chain risk, including:\no Single-source machining processes\no Capacity constraints\no Obsolete or specialized equipment dependencies\nCross-Functional Collaboration\nAct as the machining SME between:\no Engineering\no Supply Chain / Strategic Sourcing\no Operations\no Quality\nSupport engineering change reviews and technical trade studies impacting suppliers\nProvide technical input for supplier councils, sourcing boards, and executive reviews\nVirtual Capability Centers\nIntegrated Product Teams\nContinuous Improvement & Standards\nHelp define and maintain:\no Machining capability standards\no Supplier technical requirements\no Best-practice guidelines\nSupport Lean / CI initiatives within supplier machining operations\nMentor sourcing and quality teams on machining fundamentals\nBasic Qualifications\nTechnical Background\n10+ years hands-on machining experience (shop floor, manufacturing engineering, or supplier technical role)\nDeep expertise in:\no CNC machining processes\no Tooling, fixturing, and programming concepts\no GD&T interpretation\no Aerospace/defense materials and specifications\nExperience supporting major aerospace or defense programs\nSupply Chain & Supplier Experience\nExperience working directly with external machining suppliers\nStrong understanding of:\no Supplier audits and technical assessments\no Cost drivers in machining\no Production ramp-up and capacity planning\nSoft Skills & Leadership\nStrong technical communication skills - able to translate complex machining topics for non-technical audiences\nComfortable challenging assumptions and driving fact-based decisions\nAble to influence without direct authority\nWilling to travel to supplier sites (typically 25-50%)\nDesired Skills\n\nDesired skills :\nBachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.\nBackground in:\no New product introduction (NPI)\no Make/buy strategy\no Capability Center / COE models\nExperience supporting digital manufacturing, advanced machining, or automation initiatives\nPay Information\nGeoZone Definition: GeoZones are geographic groupings created by Lockheed Martin to align compensation ranges with regional labor markets and cost-of-labor differences across the United States.
