Standard Job Description

Our Assembly, Test and Launch Operations (ATLO) organization within the Commercial Civil Space Line of Business is seeking a manager for the Production Operations organization building the Orion spacecraft. This position will be responsible for providing supervision and technical direction to a geographically dispersed, multifunctional organization comprised of hourly and salaried employees. This includes responsibility for manufacturing and test functions performed in support of Orion at various processing buildings at the Kennedy Space Center. The position will be responsible to lead a group of supervisors managing the daily activities of a technician workforce covering 3 shifts per day, 7-days per week. Other duties include mentor supervisors to ensure efficient processing, work with the Production Integration team to sequence and schedule work for each shift, develop and execute floor operations work instructions, oversee/lead lift operations, resolve production issues that arise on the floor, oversee the FOD/FOE, Drop Mitigation and Tool Control plans,. The selected candidate will also support investigating incidents to determine root cause and implement corrective actions to ensure procedural disciplines are maintained. The selected candidate will assess performance, provide input for annual performance reviews and will also interface directly with other manufacturing peers, manufacturing engineers, associate contractors and the customer.

Manages the integration and testing of in-house developed and COTS/GOTS components, elements, subsystems and/or systems. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions. Oversees the synthesis of customer contractual needs and requirements into system test solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints. Directs the following activities: establishing functional and technical specifications and standards, solving hardware/software interface problems, defining input/output parameters, and ensuring integration of the entire system or subsystem. Manages the development and directs preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules for complete systems and/or subsystems. Coordinates subsystem and/or system testing activities with programs and other organizations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Candidate must have a bachelor degree from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education
  • Experience with the assembly and integration of complex aerospace systems or equivalent
  • Experience managing an hourly workforce
  • Experience supporting large multi-functional teams including manufacturing and/or ATLO disciplines
  • Minimum 5 years minimum experience working in an aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Must be a United States citizen

Desired Skills

  • Experience with the Orion program and NASA customer
  • Demonstrated successful experience leading salaried employees
  • Demonstrated understanding and background in integrated master schedule planning activities
  • Experience interfacing with external Orion organizations
  • Demonstrated proficiency establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and working collaboratively across multiple organizations
  • Experience with lean/six-sigma concepts, green belt certification preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience briefing senior leaders and customers

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $129000.00 - $239600.00

  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
