The Opportunity

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.

Join the AIR6500 program and play a key role in shaping the future of Defence test automation. AIR6500 program will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

As the Test Automation Product Owner, you will provide technical leadership for the development and delivery of automated testing capabilities across one of Australia's most complex and strategically significant Defence programs.

Working closely with engineering teams, stakeholders, customers and industry partners, you will define priorities, guide technical direction, and ensure test automation solutions deliver value across the system lifecycle. This is an opportunity to influence the way advanced Defence systems are verified, integrated and delivered.

Key Responsibilities

As the Test Automation Product Owner, you will:

  • Define and maintain the Test Automation product roadmap, priorities and feature backlog
  • Set the technical direction for Test Automation in collaboration with Product Teams and engineering stakeholders
  • Develop feature acceptance criteria and validate delivery outcomes against business and technical objectives
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams supporting test automation capabilities
  • Lead Agile planning activities including PI Planning, sprint planning and backlog management
  • Assess automation solutions against system architecture, trade studies and verification objectives
  • Collaborate with customers, engineering teams and industry partners to deliver integrated outcomes
  • Drive adoption and continuous improvement of the Test Automation Framework (TAF)

What you’ll bring

You are a technically capable leader with experience delivering complex engineering solutions within Agile environments. You enjoy working with diverse stakeholders, balancing technical and business priorities, and leading teams towards successful outcomes. You have a strong customer focus and can translate complex requirements into practical, value-driven solutions.

You will have:

  • Significant experience working within Agile systems development environments
  • Experience providing technical leadership across complex engineering or acquisition programs
  • Strong backlog management, prioritisation and product ownership experience
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and customer communication skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical trade-offs
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex technical outcomes
  • Degree qualifications in a relevant Engineering Discipline or relevant industry experience
  • An Australian NV-1 security clearance and ability to access/handle Export Controlled technology, data and information
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

Desirable:

    • Experience in Air / Electromagnetic Battle Management, or Defence systems
    • Exposure to DevSecOps environments and delivery models
    • Experience with Model-Based Engineering (MBE), SysML, Cameo or Rhapsody
