Sr. Engineering Manager

We are looking for an Engineering Manager/Senior Engineering Manager to join Loco's engineering team. In this role, you will lead high-impact backend systems that power user growth and revenue across global markets. As a hands-on people leader, you will be accountable for both system outcomes and team performance; there is no separation between architecture, execution, and delivery.

You will work closely with product and business leaders to translate business goals into scalable technical solutions and measurable outcomes. The role requires strong ownership of end-to-end delivery, a sharp focus on performance and reliability at scale, and the ability to build and grow high-performing engineering teams. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of scaling systems and teams in consumer Internet or SaaS environments, with progressively increasing ownership of large-scale systems and engineering leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the development of core live streaming technologies that power global, real-time video and chat experiences.
• Build and scale the design and delivery of low-latency, high-throughput video pipelines (ingest, transcode, delivery, and playback).
• Develop top technical talent in distributed streaming systems.
• Drive reliability, performance, and cost efficiency of streaming systems under massive concurrent load.

Requirements:

• Overall 10-12 years of experience in software development, with a recent 3+ years in engineering management leading teams of 15 or more backend engineers.
• 7+ years of experience as a technical lead or staff engineer, developing scalable applications in Go, Node.js, or Java on cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Excellent knowledge of microservices design, event-oriented architecture, distributed design patterns, and a proven track record of implementing scalable and fault-tolerant live streaming services catering to millions of end users.
• Strong experience with low-latency streaming architectures and video streaming systems, including ingest, encoding/transcoding, packaging, and adaptive bitrate streaming.
• Deep understanding of streaming protocols such as RTMP, HLS, DASH, and WebRTC, including their trade-offs across latency, scalability, and reliability.
• Sound understanding of SQL databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases like Cassandra and MongoDB.
• Extensive usage of brokers, caching, and search technologies like Kafka, Redis, or Elasticsearch.
• Experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes or OpenShift.
• Bachelor's or master's in computer science or related fields of engineering.

Bonus points for:

• Experience improving streaming QoS/QoE metrics such as latency, rebuffering rate, bitrate stability, bitrate adaptation, stream start time, and player behavior.
• Experience designing for failure scenarios in real-time streaming systems, including stream drops, network variability, and graceful degradation.
• Experience optimizing infrastructure cost for high-throughput streaming systems.
• Experience working with CDNs and multi-region video delivery architecture.
