Our flagship product, MITHRIL, is our hardware-agnostic, AI-enabled autonomy software suite that enables us to augment any off-the-shelf spacecraft with the ability to autonomously detect, characterise, and reversibly neutralise orbital threats. By building on the proven space heritage of our best-in-class satellite-bus partners and fully integrating MITHRIL into a single unified platform, we deliver an end-to-end, autonomous in-space bodyguarding service.\nAbout the Job\nWe are seeking a highly motivated Avionics FPGA Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team developing next-generation space systems. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and validating advanced avionics architectures for autonomous platforms. This role offers the opportunity to work hands-on across the full lifecycle, from concept and simulation to hardware testing and on-orbit readiness.\nWhat You’ll Do\nDesign, develop, and verify RTL in SystemVerilog and/or Verilog for FPGA and SoC targets.\nBring up and integrate SerDes interfaces and memory interfaces.\nDevelop testbenches and formal proofs to ensure module and system level correctness\nConduct hardware debugging and system level testing using oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and other lab instrumentation.\nCollaborate closely with systems, avionics software and hardware teams to ensure seamless integration of RTL designs into flight systems.\nContribute to design documentation, test plans, and the evidence needed for design reviews, and support environmental qualification and verification testing (EMC, vibration, thermal vacuum, etc.)\nQualifications\nBEng / MEng in Electrical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.\nProficiency in SystemVerilog and/or Verilog, with a solid grasp of RTL design principles.\nHands-on experience with at least one FPGA family or ecosystem\nFamiliarity with common digital interfaces and protocols (SPI, I2C, UART)\nExperience with simulation and formal verification\nExperience dealing with clock domain crossings, static timing analysis and timing closure.\nComfort scripting for automation, ideally in Python and/or TCL.\nHands on experience with lab test equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and power supplies.\nClear communication and a proactive, curious approach to picking up new tools and ideas.\nPreferred Skills & Experience\nHigh speed interfaces: MIPI-CSI, QSGMII, SGMII, 10GBASE-KR, PCIe or similar.\nMemory interfaces: DDR3, DDR4, LPDDR4 or similar\nSoC design: integrating RISC-V or Arm processor subsystems, AXI/APB/AHB protocols, and embedded Linux bring-up.\nExperience with PCB design for high speed digital designs.\nStrong knowledge of verification methodologies, functional coverage, assertions and constrained random verification \nExperience with Microchip FPGAs and development tools.\nBackground in space rated electronics and high reliability design practices, including radiation effects analysis, fault tolerant architectures, and qualification processes for space systems.\nTime-Sensitive Networking (TSN) or other deterministic networking.\nCompensation & Benefits\nPay Range:(E1) Junior Engineer: £30,000 - £55,000 / year\n(E2) Mid-level Engineer: £55,000 - £75,000 / year\n\nMeaningful equity incentives as part of our employee option pool\nUnlimited Paid Time Off (PTO)\nComprehensive medical, dental & vision coverage\nContributory pension\nBe part of a scrappy, dynamic, multidisciplinary, collaborative crew\nImportant Information:\nFor security reasons background checks will be undertaken prior to any employment offers being made to an applicant. These checks will include nationality checks as it is a requirement of this position that you be eligible to access equipment and data regulated by the United States' International Traffic in Arms Regulations. \nUnder these Regulations, you may be ineligible for this role if you do not hold citizenship of one of the following countries: Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, or United States, or if you hold ineligible dual citizenship or nationality. For more information on these Regulations, click here ITAR Regulations.\nAdditional Information:\nCompensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. \nLodestar is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.","description_format":"text","description_chars":5208,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Space & Aerospace"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-22T16:49:35Z"}],"liveness":{"score":14,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.406,"p_room":0.35,"age_days":46,"expected_fill_days":21,"reasons":["conf:2","velocity","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-09-28T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":72858,"is_top_pay":false},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/lodestar-avionics-fpga-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/lodestar-avionics-fpga-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-29T03:12:47Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2938,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":2062,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-09-30T00:00:00Z"}}}
