Operating under the strategic direction of the Engineering Director, this role requires a mature, highly autonomous leader with deep optical engineering expertise who can manage the execution of infrastructure initiatives with limited day-to-day supervision. Serving as a critical operational link between hands-on engineering and leadership, this role manages the implementation of capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, serves as a high-tier operational escalation point, and prepares data-driven network performance and capacity reports for senior leadership.\nResponsibilities include technical management, technical understanding, analyzing information, informing others, staffing, problem solving, developing budgets, coordination, strategic planning and quality management.\nCompetencies:\nExplain and interpret company policy and values; connect Logix values to everyday work\nHire, motivate team; coaching and employee development; focus on helping others to be productive\nPlan, allocate resources, follow budgets\nMake recommendations that align with strategy\nEnsure team is engaged and doing fulfilling work\nLead team in primary functional activities that support Logix’s value chain\nImprove customer’s perception of the team\nExplain concepts to teammates and listen to respond\nPredict risks and escalate before they occur\nPartner with other leaders in Logix and encourage team collaboration\nSupervisory Responsibilities:\nResponsible for departmental and individual performance reviews\nResponsible for recruiting, hiring and evaluating employees\nLogix Culture:\nEach team member has a responsibility to support and operate in alignment with our culture and company values. The behaviors and actions for each value may be different depending on the team member’s role and are critical to both the success of team members and the company.\nKey Responsibilities:\nResponsible for the creation and management of all projects within Network Engineering.\nOversee and determine timeframes for major Engineering projects including system updates, HW/SW upgrades, grooms/migrations, etc.\nManages network capacity reports on a weekly basis.\nManages the evaluation and testing of new technologies to provide recommendations to upper management.\nCoordinates with engineering staff for daily work assignments, reports and analytics as it relates to the Network Engineering daily workload.\nProvides departmental reports to upper management as needed.\nDevelops budgets and cost benefit analysis for network based projects.\nAssists in current and future optical network designs.\nOrganizes and communicates departmental objectives to the group in an effective manner.\nProvides oversight and input on the process workflows for Network Engineering ticket activities and implementation of new technologies.\nMaintains network wide strategies by managing staff and researching and implementing strategic technological solutions.\nManages all Lab testing projects as well as the production of all supporting documentation.\nEnsures the proper creation, review and implementation of change management procedures are followed and distributed as needed by Network Engineering.\nPerforms other duties requested by the Director of Engineering or as business needs dictate.\nFirst line escalation for the Network Engineering on-call person.\nRequired Skills/Abilities:\nCoherent Optics & High-Speed Transport: Experience deploying 400G, 800G, and 1.2T coherent optical technologies across long-haul and metro networks.\nAdvanced knowledge of Colorless, Directionless, Contentionless (CDC) ROADM architectures and flex-grid spectrum management.\nAdvanced knowledge of SONET and DWDM based fiber optic networks, including capabilities and functionality of the Ciena OME6500, Ciena 5430 Reconfigurable Switching System, and CISCO 15454 platforms.\nOperating knowledge of inventory management and order processing applications.\nProficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio.\nGood interpersonal skills.\nDemonstrate creative and organizational skills in order to work through projects producing accurate and effective end results.\nAbility to collect data, establish facts, define problem(s), and evaluate seriousness of problem(s).\nMaintains positive attitude towards customers, co-workers and management.\nMaintains honesty and integrity in all circumstances.\nEffective time management.\nProfessional and effective oral and written communication skills.\nMust be able to manage remote staff.\nDisplay an advanced knowledge in the management of engineering and technical staff.\nWill be required to travel to other markets for special projects or training.\nAbility to operate a motor vehicle. Must have valid motor vehicle operator’s license and a responsible driving record.\nEducation and Experience:\nEducation: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is often required. Extensive experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.\nExperience: Typically, 5+ years of experience in network operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.\nProfessional or Expert level certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP) are a major plus but not required if equivalent experience exists.\nPhysical Requirements:\nWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate by typing, reading, talking, and listening effectively. The employee will be required to work for extended periods of time at a desk on a computer and must be able to maneuver through office spaces as needed.
