The role combines practical engineering across cloud platforms, identity and authentication services, CI/CD tooling, Linux, and networking with leadership responsibilities including backlog refinement, user story creation, work prioritisation, delivery management, release management, and production support handover to BAU teams.\nKey Responsibilities\nAct in partnership with the Portal Team Owner to help define strategy, future growth and best of breed service.\nLead backlog refinement activities, ensuring work items are clearly defined, prioritised, and ready for delivery.\nCreate, shape, and refine user stories, acceptance criteria, technical tasks, and delivery dependencies.\nPrioritise engineering work in collaboration with product owners, delivery managers, architects, security teams, and operational stakeholders.\nProvide hands-on DevOps engineering support across AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, Linux environments, networking, and identity and authentication components.\nManage delivery plans, track progress, identify risks and blockers, and support predictable delivery against agreed milestones.\nOwn and coordinate release management activities, including release planning, environment readiness, deployment coordination, rollback planning, and stakeholder communication.\nEnsure production support handover to BAU teams is complete, including operational documentation, support processes, monitoring expectations, known issues, and escalation paths.\nSupport incident investigation, problem management, and service improvement activities where DevOps expertise is required.\nPromote automation, repeatability, security, resilience, and operational excellence across the portal platform.\nProvide technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership to engineers while remaining actively involved in implementation and troubleshooting.\nRequired Technical Skills\nStrong knowledge of identity management concepts, access control, authentication, authorisation, and secure user lifecycle management.\nExperience with authentication flows and federation standards, including SAML and OIDC.\nHands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, EKS, CloudFront, RDS, and AWS Transfer Family.\nExperience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.\nStrong Linux administration, shell usage, troubleshooting, and operational support skills.\nGood understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, routing, firewalls, load balancing, certificates, TLS, and connectivity troubleshooting.\nExperience supporting cloud-hosted production services, including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and operational readiness.\nAbility to translate technical requirements into deliverable engineering tasks and support implementation through to release.\nLeadership and Delivery Expectations\nAct as the technical delivery lead for portal DevOps workstreams, balancing hands-on contribution with coordination and leadership.\nDrive clarity across scope, dependencies, acceptance criteria, sequencing, and release readiness.\nCommunicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing clear updates on progress, risks, issues, and decisions required.\nSupport team planning ceremonies and ensure work is broken down into achievable, well-understood deliverables.\nChampion production readiness, secure delivery practices, documentation quality, and effective transition into BAU support.\nLead by example through practical engineering contribution, pragmatic decision-making, and a focus on reliable service outcomes.\nExperience and Background\nThe successful candidate will typically have significant experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, or site reliability engineering, with demonstrable experience delivering and supporting production-grade services.
