About the team and role The Consumer Transversal team brings consumer understanding to L’Oréal’s group-level priorities, brand strategies and business growth opportunities. Our team combines expertise in quantitative research with qualitative and cultural insight. You will bring a sound foundation in consumer research and data interpretation, alongside a strong understanding of how brands develop propositions, engage audiences and make marketing choices. You will work on cross-brand and cross-business topics such as brand equity, consumer segmentation, shopper and channel behaviour, consumer centricity and offline retail experience. The role involves managing research, but its greatest value lies in identifying what the findings mean for marketing-and working with stakeholders to turn those implications into practical choices. You do not need to be a specialist in every research method. You do need to be close enough to the evidence to challenge it, confident enough to form a point of view, and commercially minded enough to help teams act on it.
Key responsibilities
1. Connect consumer insight with marketing priorities. Work with brand and business teams to understand their objectives, frame the right consumer questions and identify where insight can improve marketing decisions.
2. Translate findings into marketing action. Turn consumer and shopper understanding into clear implications for areas such as audience prioritisation, brand positioning, product propositions, communication messages, content, channels and retail experience. Help stakeholders define practical next steps rather than stopping at recommendations in a report.
3. Manage consumer insight projects. Develop or assess research approaches, coordinate agencies and internal partners, oversee key stages of execution, and ensure findings are relevant, credible and delivered on time.
4. Interpret data with sound judgment. Work confidently with quantitative results and qualitative findings. Identify meaningful patterns, question unexpected results, request appropriate follow-up analysis and recognise the limitations of the evidence. For more complex studies, collaborate effectively with quantitative specialists and research partners.
5. Support cross-business consumer-centric initiatives. Contribute a consumer perspective to strategic topics, facilitate discussion across teams and help connect insight outputs with business planning and implementation.
6. Explore AI-enabled insight approaches. Use appropriate AI tools to help analyse consumer information, identify emerging themes or improve research efficiency. Critically assess and validate outputs before using them to inform recommendations. Requirements
- Approximately 6-8 years of relevant experience in consumer insights, CMI, brand marketing, market research or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience applying consumer insights to marketing decisions or actions. You can explain not only what a study found, but what changed-or was proposed to change-in positioning, messaging, audience strategy, content, channel activity or consumer experience as a result.
- A strong understanding of brand building and marketing processes, with the ability to engage effectively with brand and cross-functional teams.
- A solid foundation in consumer research, including experience managing studies and interpreting both quantitative and qualitative findings. You should be comfortable reviewing data, challenging conclusions and working with specialists on analytically demanding projects.
- Good data sensitivity: the ability to distinguish a robust insight from an interesting but unproven signal and to avoid overstating what the evidence supports.
- Strong synthesis, storytelling and presentation skills, with the ability to make complex findings useful to non research stakeholders.
- The ability to manage projects and partners independently while working collaboratively in a small team.
- Curiosity about AI-enabled approaches and the judgment to assess where they add value and where human validation remains essential.
- Bachelor’s degree or above, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
Preferred experience
- Experience in beauty, premium FMCG or another consumer-focused industry, particularly in the China market.
- Experience in a brand-side marketing, brand strategy or CMI role where research findings were actively used to shape marketing plans.
- Exposure to brand equity, segmentation, shopper or channel studies, including experience working with complex quantitative outputs.
- Examples of partnering with marketing teams from insight development through to activation, testing or evaluation.
- Practical experience using AI tools in insight or marketing work.
