The Corporate Counsel provides proactive legal consultation and advice on day-to-day matters and key functional priorities of their business client. The Corporate Counsel, Litigation manages a diverse portfolio of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including premises liability, commercial disputes, consumer class actions, and product liability matters. This attorney will take ownership of assigned matters, provide practical and business-focused legal advice, and partner with internal stakeholders, Senior Counsel, and outside counsel on complex and high-exposure litigation. The role may also support emerging disputes related to Lowe's growing third-party marketplace, including product liability and intellectual property matters.\nWhat You Will Do\nManage a portfolio of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including premises liability, commercial disputes, consumer class actions, product liability, and other civil litigation.\nTake ownership of assigned matters from initial assessment through resolution, including case strategy, discovery, witness preparation, mediation and settlement, and trial preparation.\nServes as the trusted advisor and key point of contact for Director level stakeholders on key functional initiatives and may engage with VPs on more complex issues.\nApplies legal and business knowledge to identify reoccurring and emerging litigation risks by assessing internal and external trends, including the regulatory environment, and develops mitigation strategies and provides solutions-based advice on key functional priorities of their business client.\nHandles matters independently and proactively consults with leadership on complex work.\nProvide practical, business-focused solutions on litigation risk, likely outcomes, case valuation, resolution strategy, and opportunities to reduce future litigation exposure.\nCollaborates and provides input on complex projects impacting the business' functional strategic priorities.\nPartner with internal business and legal teams to investigate claims, gather facts and documents, prepare witnesses, and develop litigation strategy.\nManage outside counsel, including strategy, staffing, budgets, reporting, and performance, and review key pleadings, briefs, discovery responses, and other case filings.\nDrafts and executes legal documents and gathers relevant case related information using multiple sources and methods.\nMonitors developments, including proposed legislation and court decisions, related to company activities to evaluate their impact upon operations.\nServes as a mentor to lower-level attorneys and staff. May manage 1-2 support staff.\n Minimum Qualifications\n5-10 years practicing law in a law firm or in-house legal department\nAbility to influence by translating legal risk to operational risk and providing practical solutions\nEffective, concise communicator and demonstrated legal writing skills\nLicense to practice law in at least one state (or foreign jurisdiction, if lawyer is providing services to Company affiliates in that jurisdiction)\nAble to translate legal speak into plain language\nMeaningful experience handling civil litigation, including primary responsibility for managing matters through multiple stages of litigation\nStrong litigation experience in a law firm and/or large in-house environment, including independently managing a docket or significant portions of complex matters\nExperience with state and federal court litigation involving commercial disputes, consumer class actions, premises liability, or product liability\nExperience with product liability, e-commerce, marketplace, intellectual property, technology, or other complex litigation involving consumer-facing businesses\nExperience with key stages of litigation, including depositions, motions, mediations, and trial preparation, with the ability to quickly learn new substantive areas and manage a varied docket\nJuris Doctorate Degree from an ABA accredited school \nAbout Lowe’s\nLowe’s Companies, Inc.
