Our mission is to help dogs live longer, healthier lives.\nWe're pioneering a new category of veterinary prescription drugs that proactively and preventatively target the underlying drivers of aging, delaying the onset of disease and preserving quality of life as dogs age. We've already made significant progress in our mission to develop the first FDA-approved drugs to extend canine lifespan: as of early 2026 we've completed two of three major FDA review sections for our lead program, LOY-002, and are targeting submission of the third and final section later this year.\nLoyal is a well-funded startup with teams of scientists, veterinarians, engineers, operators, and creatives. You'll help us continue on our path of earning FDA approval for the first lifespan extension medicine for any species, and change what's possible for the dogs we love.\nAbout the role\nWe're seeking a Senior Statistician to join the Stats & Data Science team at Loyal, taking independent ownership of our preclinical statistical portfolio - study design and power analysis, aging biomarker analytics, efficacy, target discovery, and dose and mortality modeling. Your work will directly support drug development decisions and the scientific foundation behind Loyal's path to FDA CVM approval for the first lifespan extension medicine for any species.\nThis role requires more than executing pre-specified analyses. You'll need to think critically about the data itself - questioning whether an endpoint is well-defined, whether a proposed target holds up statistically, and exploring open-ended questions where the right method isn't obvious. Omics is one such exploratory area we're looking to build out, using differential abundance and pathway-level analysis to facilitate target and pathway discovery.\nThis is a role for someone senior enough to operate independently: leading preclinical statistical strategy and analysis end-to-end and serving as the statistical point of contact for R&D programs. You'll partner closely with R&D scientists and the broader Stats & Data Science team, and will have the opportunity to grow into supporting clinical biostatistics work over time.\nYou will be reporting to our Statistics Manager, Research.\nYour daily work will include\nIndependently leading statistical design and analysis for preclinical studies: dose-response and mortality projection modeling, aging biomarker studies, enrollment/attrition and survival modeling\nBuilding and applying population PK/PD models (nonlinear mixed-effects, exposure-response relationships) to support internal dose-justification and formulation decisions, extending the team's existing bioequivalence/crossover work\nConducting exploratory analyses to support endpoint development and target/pathway discovery - thinking critically about what the data can and can't support, not just executing pre-specified analysis plans\nServing as statistical point of contact for preclinical studies and cross-functional R&D projects, coordinating directly with scientists and program leads\nApplying survival analysis, longitudinal/mixed-effects modeling, and simulation-based power/sample size methods across preclinical programs\nCreating and contributing to internal documentation and reproducible reporting (Quarto/Rmarkdown) for preclinical analyses\nSupporting clinical biostatistics: assisting with SAP development, sitting in on regulatory strategy discussions, and drafting analysis sections for review by the Statistics Manager\nCross-functional relationships - partnering with Statisticians, Clinicians, and Scientists to support CVM/FDA-ready data strategies and analysis outputs.\nMentoring junior statisticians on the team\nPeer-reviewing methodology from external consultants, manuscripts, and cross-functional deliverables for statistical rigor\nIdentifying opportunities to improve statistical workflows, tooling, or methods across the preclinical portfolio\nAbout you\nMS or PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Pharmacometrics, or a related field\n8+ years of relevant statistical experience, with a demonstrated track record operating independently on a preclinical or translational statistics portfolio\nHands-on population PK/PD modeling experience (WinNonLin, NONMEM, nlmixr2, Monolix, or equivalent) - nonlinear mixed-effects models, exposure-response analysis\nDemonstrated experience in experimental design, survival/longitudinal analysis, and post-hoc statistical analysis\nA track record of exploratory, hypothesis-generating analysis - not just confirmatory statistics - with comfort sitting with ambiguous data and pushing back on poorly defined endpoints or targets\nStrong attention to detail and ability to adhere to regulatory requirements\nDemonstrated ability to learn new statistical methods, tools, or scientific domains independently, without needing structured training\nStrong writing and communication skills, including to non-statistical audiences\nFluency in R and/or Python; experience with Rmarkdown/Quarto or Jupyter for reproducible reporting\nFluency in AI tools (e.g., Claude code)\nNice to have: prior work in veterinary, animal health, or translational aging research; experience with data validation pipelines; exposure to regulatory-facing statistical writing (FDA/CVM/EMA); interest in growing into clinical trial biostatistics over time\nExcited about working at the forefront of a new category of veterinary medicine\nSalary range: $107,000 - 164,000\nLoyal benefits\nFull-coverage health insurance - medical, dental and vision - for you and your dependents\n$1,000 home office equipment stipend\n$1,200/year learning budget for books, courses, etc.\n$250/month wellness budget for gym, cleaners, spa, food, etc.\nAll 3-day weekends are turned into 4-day weekends \nUnlimited vacation and paid holidays\nPaw-ternity leave - adopt a dog and get a day off with your new family member \nCompetitive salary\nCompany equity options grant for new hires\nLoyal is founded and led by a first-gen female CEO and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate against applicants based on gender, race or color, ethnicity or national origin, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or any other applicable characteristics protected by law.\nOur values\nLean into moonshots\nWe don't settle for incremental change. We have the bravery to take risks and shoot for the impact we want to have.\nOpportunity is at the intersection\nWe lean into combining disciplines, expertises, and perspectives not normally adjacent. We design our organization to facilitate cross-pollination and cross-collaboration. We reject silos.\nExpertise without ego\nTitles do not determine who has a voice. We work on hard technical problems and have a ton of fun while at it.\nLearning by doing\nOur path is novel and many things we are doing have never been done before. We lean into MVPs and are open to unexpected outcomes.\nLead with context\nWe value leading with context. We equip people with the context and background necessary to make their own decisions and act in the best interest of Loyal. We empower teams to succeed.\nEmpathy and respect for all life\nOur patients are not just numbers. Our work is intentional, thoughtful, and guided by respect for life. We take our responsibility to pets and pet parents seriously.","description_format":"text","description_chars":7433,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":8,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"master","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity","Health insurance","Home office"],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"United States","iso":"US","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Veterinary Medicine"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-14T12:18:00Z"}],"liveness":{"score":9,"band":"cold","label":"Long shot","p_open":1,"p_active":0.269,"p_room":0.35,"age_days":22,"expected_fill_days":7,"reasons":["conf:3","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-10-01T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":164000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/loyal-senior-statistician-research-development","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/loyal-senior-statistician-research-development.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-02T02:19:38Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":3126,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":1874,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-03T00:00:00Z"}}}
