We are looking for a Database Administrator who can help strengthen our database operations, improve resilience, and ensure our data infrastructure remains reliable as we scale.\nWhy this role matters\nOur database infrastructure is growing in both scale and complexity. With production PostgreSQL and MySQL environments running across AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and our in-Kingdom hosting environment, maintaining database availability, performance, and recoverability is essential to the reliability of our platform.\nAs a Database Administrator, you’ll take ownership of the health and operational reliability of our production databases. You’ll work on challenges that go beyond routine administration, including multi-terabyte database environments, high-availability architecture, disaster recovery, major-version upgrades, and safe database migrations.\nYou’ll also work closely with engineering, cloud, and reliability teams to help developers make better database decisions, prevent production incidents, and improve the way database changes are designed and delivered.\nIf you enjoy solving complex database performance challenges, building resilient data infrastructure, and taking ownership of critical production systems, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.\nWhat You’ll Do\nManage and maintain PostgreSQL and MySQL databases across AWS, GCP, and self-managed environments.\nMonitor database performance, availability, and capacity.\nOptimize queries, indexing, and database resource utilization.\nManage backups, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery.\nImplement database replication, high availability, and failover strategies.\nPlan database upgrades, migrations, and safe schema changes.\nMaintain database security, access controls, and auditing.\nAutomate database operations using Bash, Python, or similar tools.\nTroubleshoot database incidents and perform root-cause analysis.\nCollaborate with engineering, DevOps, SRE, and Cloud teams to improve database reliability and scalability.\nWhat success looks like (First 90-120 Days)\nFirst 30 days:\nYou’ve developed a clear understanding of the production database estate across AWS, GCP, and SITE.\nYou understand the existing database architecture, operational workflows, monitoring, and recovery procedures.\nYou’ve built strong working relationships with the database team, Cloud Engineering, SRE, and development teams.\nYou’ve identified the most significant risks and improvement opportunities across availability, performance, backup, and recovery.\nBy day 60:\nYou’re independently handling assigned database administration and troubleshooting activities.\nYou’ve reviewed backup configurations and started validating recovery procedures for critical databases.\nYou’ve identified gaps in database monitoring and alerting, including replication lag, WAL contention, autovacuum, and table bloat.\nYou’re contributing to database performance improvements and operational documentation.\nBy day 90:\nCritical database restore tests have been completed or are progressing against an agreed recovery-testing plan, with gaps documented and corrective actions defined.\nKey database failure scenarios are documented through practical runbooks.\nDatabase monitoring and alerting improvements have been implemented for prioritized operational risks.\nYou’re actively contributing to database reliability, performance, and incident-prevention initiatives.\nBy day 120:\nA safer database change-management process is in place, including appropriate reviews, DDL auditing, and rollback planning.\nA practical PostgreSQL major-upgrade roadmap has been developed, with compatibility and migration risks assessed.\nThe high-availability approach for the SITE database environment has been evaluated and documented.\nDatabase size and activity metrics are available to support the per-customer cost-allocation initiative.\nRequirements\nWho You Are\nYou’re an experienced Database Administrator who understands that managing production databases is about more than keeping services running. You know how to prevent data loss, diagnose complex performance problems, plan high-risk changes, and build systems that remain reliable under pressure.\nYou’re comfortable working with large, business-critical databases and can balance operational stability with the need to improve architecture, automation, and scalability.\nTechnically, you likely:\nHave 5+ years of hands-on PostgreSQL administration experience in production.\nHave experience with AWS Aurora, Amazon RDS, MySQL, and self-managed Linux databases.\nUnderstand database performance tuning, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery.\nHave experience managing multi-terabyte databases, upgrades, and migrations.\nCan automate database operations using Bash or Python.\nWhen it comes to database resilience:\nYou have hands-on experience with backups, recovery, replication, and failover.\nYou can troubleshoot database incidents and minimize downtime.\nYou follow safe change-management practices and maintain rollback plans.\nWhen it comes to database performance:\nYou can troubleshoot slow queries, indexing, locking, and resource utilization.\nYou understand PostgreSQL internals and multi-tenant database challenges.\nWhat sets you apart:\nYou take ownership and remain calm under pressure.\nYou communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.\nYou document your work and continuously improve database reliability.\nNice to Have (but not required)\nExperience with multi-tenant database architectures, particularly schema-per-tenant environments with thousands of schemas.\nExperience managing databases larger than several terabytes with high write volumes and demanding availability requirements.\nHands-on experience with PostgreSQL tooling such as Patroni, pgBackRest, or WAL-G.\nExperience supporting cloud migrations or moving customer workloads to in-Kingdom hosting environments.\nFamiliarity with database observability, capacity planning, and per-customer database usage or cost allocation.\nExperience working in SaaS, data-platform, fintech, banking, or telecommunications environments.\nExperience with infrastructure-as-code tools and automated database provisioning.\nRelevant certifications, such as EDB PostgreSQL or AWS certifications.\nWhat the hiring process will look like\nMawhub screening \nTechnical screen (45 min) - [DB Lead]\n Technical deep-dive (60-90 min) with a practical scenario: diagnosing replication lag and WAL contention, planning a zero-downtime major upgrade - [DB Lead + SRE Team Lead]\n Hiring manager interview -
