JOB TITLE: Assistant Finance Manager - Financial Control (12 Month FTC)

SALARY: £44,901 - £54,879

LOCATION(S): Edinburgh

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh office.

This role sits within the Commercial Banking Financial Control but supports the Retail division and Reporting team within Control & Reporting, who are responsible for financial control activity for the Commercial Banking division (“CB”) such as income recognition, reconciliation and substantiation of financial data, guardianship of the ledger and ensuring risks are appropriately recorded, escalated and resolved.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking candidate to support the Finance Manager in leading a Finance team responsible for ensuring the ledger is complete and accurate for Core Commercial Lending & Deposit platforms. Involves both preparation and review of month end journals, balance sheet substantiation preparation and regular interaction with Finance Business Partners, production of management reporting and other financial control processes.

What you'll be doing

  • Deliver accurate and timely month-end financial control, reporting and consolidation activities.

  • Produce management, statutory, regulatory and governance reporting for the IMS portfolio.

  • Prepare, review and substantiate balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving financial control issues.

  • Maintain a strong financial control framework through effective controls, risk management and audit support.

  • Build trusted relationships with Finance, Risk and business stakeholders to ensure reporting integrity and resolve issues.

  • Coordinate regulatory reporting and governance requirements, ensuring robust review and sign-off.

  • Drive automation, process improvement and Finance Transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency, control and data quality.

  • Utilise digital tools such as Power Query, Power Automate and reporting solutions to streamline processes and reduce operational risk.

  • Support knowledge sharing, continuous improvement and team-wide collaboration.

What you'll need

  • Accountancy qualification - ICAS (or equivalent), ACCA or CIMA;

  • Passion for Financial control and a curious mindset;

  • Good analytical skills;

  • Good stakeholder management skills

  • Confidence to challenge;

  • Desire to embrace and emulate LBG’s Grow With Purpose ethos

And any experience of these would be really useful

  • Financial services experience

  • Strong risk awareness
