The analog and mixed-signal blocks at the front of the accelerator - the receiver front-end, the data converters, the clocking and bias circuits - are what decide whether that silicon meets its power, performance and area targets. This role owns the technical direction of that work and the team that does it.\nThe Role\nYou will own the analog and mixed-signal IC development from architecture through tapeout to production. You will architect subsystems and take personal ownership of critical blocks, set and enforce the circuit methodologies, simulation corner strategies and layout guidelines the team works to, and own the analog side of tapeout sign-off. You will lead silicon bring-up and characterisation, and hold the technical relationships with the foundry, PDK and EDA partners. You will manage and mentor the analog team, and you report to the Head of Engineering.\nWhat is genuinely hard about this is that the analog content is not laid on top of a finished architecture. It develops alongside the photonics, digital and firmware work, so the electrical interfaces, calibration and real-time control loops are being fixed at the same time as the blocks that depend on them. The design has to be right the first time you can measure it, on a process node where device behaviour has to be understood rather than assumed.\nBy month six, you will have the analog subsystems through their own design reviews with the methodologies and sign-off criteria agreed and written down, a bench plan ready for first silicon, and a team growing under you with a clear technical bar.\nWhat You'll Do\nArchitect and own the analog and mixed-signal subsystems: TIA front-ends, VGAs, high-speed ADCs and DACs, PLLs, LDOs, bandgap references, and on-chip bias and calibration circuits.\n\nLead circuit design from concept through schematic capture, pre- and post-layout simulation and sign-off, taking personal ownership of critical blocks.\n\nDefine and enforce analog design methodologies, simulation corner strategies and layout guidelines, including matching, shielding, guard rings and substrate noise isolation.\n\nDrive the analog side of tapeout: own the sign-off checklist, review LVS and DRC results, and coordinate with the digital and layout teams on milestones.\n\nLead silicon bring-up and characterisation of analog blocks: define the bench test plan, debug first-silicon issues, and close the loop between measured behaviour and simulation models.\n\nWork with the photonics team on the electrical interfaces to the optical devices, co-optimising for noise, bandwidth and power.\n\nWork with the digital ASIC and firmware teams to specify ADC and DAC interfaces, calibration sequences and real-time control requirements.\n\nEvaluate and manage the analog EDA toolchain (Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre, Calibre and similar) and maintain or extend the PDK and IP library.\n\nMentor junior and mid-level analog designers, run design reviews, and set the bar for simulation rigour and documentation.\n\nWhat We're Looking For\nMust-have\nAn MSc or PhD in electronics, microelectronics or a related discipline, or equivalent depth of industrial analog design experience.\n\nEight or more years of hands-on analog or mixed-signal ASIC design, with at least one production-intent or high-volume tapeout as lead designer on one or more critical blocks.\n\nDeep expertise in at least one of: TIA or VGA design for optical receivers, high-speed ADC/DAC architectures (SAR, pipeline, sigma-delta), PLL and clock generation, or precision analog (bandgap, LDO, bias).\n\nStrong command of the full-custom design flow: schematic capture, transistor-level simulation in Spectre or similar, post-layout extraction, and statistical or Monte Carlo sign-off.\n\nHands-on silicon bring-up and characterisation experience: comfortable at a bench with an oscilloscope, VNA, signal analyser and custom test fixtures.\n\nWorking knowledge of advanced CMOS process nodes (28nm and below, including FD-SOI or FinFET), and of how device physics affects analog performance.\n\nStrong preference for\nExperience with GlobalFoundries 22FDX (22nm FD-SOI) or comparable RF and analog-optimised nodes.\n\nFamiliarity with physical-design constraints for analog: matching strategies, layout-dependent effects, shielding, electromigration and ESD structures.\n\nA record of communicating analog constraints and trade-offs to digital designers, firmware engineers and product stakeholders.\n\nAbout Lumai\nLumai is the optical compute company building the next generation of AI infrastructure. Spun out of optics research at the University of Oxford in 2021, we compute with light instead of electrons. Our 3D optical technology carries out the matrix multiplications at the heart of AI inside beams of light travelling through free space, which lets it go beyond the limits of both silicon GPUs and integrated photonics.\nIn April 2026 we launched Iris Nova, the world's first optical computing system to run billion-parameter large language models in real time, using up to 90% less energy than conventional GPU-based systems. Iris Nova, the first server in the family, is now available for evaluation by hyperscalers, neoclouds, enterprises and research institutions. Aura and Tetra will follow.\nOur work won the Falling Walls Award for Science Breakthrough of the Year 2025 and 'Best Overall Technology' at the OCP Future Technologies Symposium. We are headquartered in Oxford.\nWhy Lumai\nYou'll work on a new kind of computer. Optical computing for AI has been promised for decades. We have a working system running real models, and the hard part left is taking it to volume.\nYour work ships. We are moving from first product to volume production, so what you build this year goes into the servers our customers run.\nYou'll work across disciplines. Optical engineers, machine learning researchers, and hardware and software engineers solve problems together. You will learn things that don't appear on your job description.\nThe work matters beyond Lumai. AI's appetite for energy is one of the defining constraints of the next decade. Our mission is sustainable intelligence at global scale: AI that is faster, cheaper to run and far less power-hungry.\nYou'll join early. You'll have a real say in how we build the product, the team and the way we work.\nEqual Opportunity\nLumai is an equal opportunity employer. We make hiring decisions based on skills, experience and potential, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If you need an adjustment at any stage of the hiring process, let us know and we will do our best to support you.","description_format":"text","description_chars":6693,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":8,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"phd","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["AI Chips & Accelerators","Optics & Photonic Components"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-26T11:54:59Z"},{"event":"close","at":"2026-09-28T19:54:40Z"},{"event":"reopen","at":"2026-10-02T20:22:18Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"GB","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"Licensed UK visa sponsor (Skilled Worker)","filings_12m":null,"filings_prev_12m":null,"green_card_filings_12m":null,"median_offered_wage_usd":null,"route":"Skilled Worker","cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-24T06:24:00+00:00","sources":["UK Home Office: register of licensed sponsors (workers)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":28,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.644,"p_room":0.44,"age_days":142,"expected_fill_days":107,"reasons":["conf:0","velocity","win:tail","crowd:"],"computed_at":"2026-10-25T05:49:26Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/lumai-asic-tech-lead-analog","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/lumai-asic-tech-lead-analog.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-25T08:52:40Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":12648,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-26T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":3781035},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=3781035"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Flumai-asic-tech-lead-analog"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Flumai-asic-tech-lead-analog"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Flumai-asic-tech-lead-analog"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/lumai-asic-tech-lead-analog\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Flumai-asic-tech-lead-analog"}]}
