The main responsibility of the Staff Real-Time Embedded Software Engineer is to serve as a subject-matter expert in developing drivers and RTOS applications foradvanced space robotic applications. They will lead driver and RTOS development efforts and mentor engineers on best practices, ensuring the system meets stringent safety and reliability requirements for crewed and autonomous space operations.\nTake the #NextLeap with Lunar Outpost and work on the Pegasus LTV, which will carry NASA astronauts farther than they'veever been before on the lunar surface!\nWorking Conditions / Schedule: This position is required to be onsite Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Where applicable, employees may work remotely on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be required based on business needs.\nKey Responsibilities:\nServe as the technical authority forRTOS driver and application developmentand deployment on robotics-based avionics platforms \nDesign, implement, integrate, and maintain RTOS basedsoftware for space avionics \nPerform board bring-up for new avionics hardware, including processor initialization, bootloader configuration, and peripheral driver development \nImplement task scheduling, memory partitioning, and time partitioning in alignment with mission safety standards \nDevelop and integrate device drivers for rover avionics subsystems \nCollaborate with systems, hardware, and robotics teams to define and implement fault-tolerant operating system configurations \nSupport hardware/software integration using engineering models, simulators, and hardware-in-the-loop testbeds \nDocument OS configuration, integration steps, and operational procedures to flight-certifiable standards \nRequired Qualifications:\nBachelor’s degree in computer or electrical engineering or related field \n5+ years developingembedded software or avionics systems for space or mission-critical robotics applications \n3+years inRTOS development, configurationand BSP customization \nHands-on board bring-up experience for avionics or robotics hardware \nStrong proficiencyin C for embedded system development \nExperience with real-time debugging, timing analysisand performance optimization \nExperience working with SPI, RS485/422, ADCs,CAN\nExperience with ethernet networking, symmetric multiprocessors (SMP)and safety-critical software architecture \nSelf-motivated, focused, and driven to meet critical deadlines \nExcellent organization and time management skills \nExcellent written and oral communication skills \nU.S. Person \nPreferred Qualifications:\nPrior work with crewed vehicle avionics architecture or planetary robotics \nExperience working with NASA core flight system (cFS) \nFamiliarity with space mission development phases and associated documentation and standards \nExperience with VxWorks 7 DKMs and RTPs \nExperience with FreeRTOS\nCompensation & Benefits: Compensation level and base salary are competitively structured and thoughtfully determined based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, and the scope of the role.\nComprehensive health coverage: Medical, dental, and vision benefits, with 70% of premiums covered by the employer\nPaid time off: Three (3) weeks per year of vacation\nRetirement plan: Up to 4% employer match on 401(k) contributions\nPaid holidays: 11 company-recognized holidays\nParental leave\nEducational reimbursement opportunities to support company objectives, continued learning, and career development\nLunar Outpost Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
