This is a lead level position performing regular inspections and maintenance on Alaska Marine Lines barges, terminals and facilities. This is a safety sensitive position.\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.\nLead and direct vessel repair crew and contractors for company vessels primarily at Seattle facilities.\nAssist Rail Logistics Coordinator and fill in as needed when rail barge is in port.\nIdentify and document structural damage to vessels and consult with port engineers regarding repairs.\nPerform inspections and maintenance of vessels including deck repairs, cleaning, dewatering, opening and closing tanks, fuel levels, machinery inspections.\nCommunicate daily and coordinate with Port Engineers regarding vessel maintenance, repairs, Coast Guard and ABS inspections.\nOrganize contractors and conduct barge deck repairs in coordination with operational schedule.\nClear and inspect tanks for entry and safety documentation.\nClean, dry, de-scale and de-humidify vessel tanks.\nDocument, record, and communicate inspection concerns and arrange for needed maintenance and repairs.\nInspect and fuel equipment as needed.\nAssist facility crew with repairs of facility buildings, terminals, winches, A-frames, ramps and other terminal equipment when requested.\nArrange for and direct contract labor as needed with clear communication and prioritize safety.\nMaintain an awareness of safety and utilize personal protective gear at all times.\nKeep work environment and tools clean, tidy, and organized to aid workers and comply with regulations.\n\nEducation and/or Experience:\nHigh school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum 2 years’ experience in vessel and facility maintenance, shipyard repair, or project management preferred. Basic understanding of tools, procedures, and techniques used in the marine trade for maintaining and repairing vessels.\n\nOther Skills and Abilities:\nAbility to meet a flexible work schedule. \nAbility and willingness to work overtime, nights and weekends as required.\nMust be able to travel to Alaska for work up to 4 weeks per year.\nAbility to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules/deadlines.\nRegular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position.
