As our first Mobile Application Engineer, you’ll take ownership of bringing Lyrebird to iOS and Android, starting with the capability that matters most: reliable audio capture on a phone. You’ll own the mobile application end to end, from the build pipeline and store releases to bringing our core web features into a native experience that works in the real conditions clinicians face every day.\nThis role suits someone who enjoys being the person who owns the whole thing. You’re comfortable moving between native platform APIs and a TypeScript codebase, you care about the unglamorous details (permissions, interruptions, flaky networks), and you get satisfaction from shipping something that simply works when it matters. Everything we build is grounded in earning trust, reducing cognitive load, and delivering meaningful impact at scale.\nWhat you’ll do\nImplement and own the mobile build pipeline, producing signed iOS and Android builds and keeping configuration current\n\nRelease the app to the App Store and Google Play, managing versioning, phased rollouts, and store review\n\nDeliver mobile audio capture for consultations, handling microphone permissions, background recording, and interruptions such as incoming phone calls\n\nMake audio uploads resilient on poor networks, with retry and resume built in\n\nBring mature web features into the mobile app, matching their behaviour and resilience whilst adapting the experience for small screens\n\nOptimise reporting and telemetry, then use what you learn to make the app more stable\n\nBuild and maintain the mobile test suite and run it as part of the build pipeline\n\nKeep across platform changes from Apple and Google and plan the work they require\n\nWhat you’ll bring\nStrong experience in cross-platform development (React Native). Preferable to also have experience in Swift/SwiftUI and Kotlin.\n\nHands-on experience with mobile audio capture, including background audio, interruption handling, and microphone permissions (for example AVAudioSession, AudioRecord, or MediaRecorder in a WebView)\n\nExperience automating mobile builds and releases with tools such as Expo (EAS), Xcode Cloud, or Gradle, including code signing and phased rollouts on both stores\n\nConfidence in TypeScript and the ability to read and change a SvelteKit web codebase\n\nExperience with mobile test automation using Browserstack.\n\nExperience integrating mobile apps with REST APIs\n\nNice to have\nExperience with Progressive Web Apps, including service workers, web app manifests, and offline caching\n\nExperience setting up mobile crash reporting and telemetry with Sentry or similar\n\nA working knowledge of on-device data protection, such as encryption at rest and short data retention\n\nFamiliarity with Sveltkit and Typescript backend frameworks\n\nFamiliarity with AWS and Terraform\n\nExperience building software for healthcare or other regulated environments\n\nEvery minute a clinician spends on admin is a minute taken away from a patient. Putting Lyrebird in a clinician’s pocket means it can be there on a ward round, in a community visit, or anywhere care actually happens.
