Our team in Woodinville, WA, is expanding and seeking a growth -focused, dedicated, relationship-driven Geotechnical Engineer in Training (EIT) to join.  

In this role, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers and geologists, contributing to real projects while developing practical skills in construction observation, subsurface exploration, soil and material testing, and more. You’ll play a key part in powering and shaping the communities we serve by delivering high-quality, thoughtful solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction monitoring activities, including density testing and foundation evaluations.
  • Assist with geotechnical site investigations and field data collection.
  • Work on active construction sites and collaborate with contractors, engineers, developers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Conduct laboratory testing to evaluate the engineering properties of soil and rock.
  • Prepare detailed field reports documenting site observations, testing activities, and findings.
  • Communicate field observations and findings clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Stay current with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Strong interest in geology, geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, and subsurface conditions
  • EIT Certification or ability to sit for the exam within 12 months of hire
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or ArcGIS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to organize, analyze, and present data using spreadsheets, formulas, and basic functions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision
  • Self-starter who takes initiative, shows ownership of responsibilities, and proactively seeks solutions
  • Valid driver's license 

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors in a variety of environments, including construction sites, undeveloped areas, roadways, and other active project sites, as well as in an office and laboratory setting.
  • Ability to walk over uneven, rough, or sloped terrain and navigate construction sites safely.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods as required by field activities.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment, tools, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other outdoor conditions.

About Nelson Geotechnical Associates: 

Nelson Geotechnical Associates, has joined MacKay.  Nelson, based in Woodinville, WA,  with a presence in Wenatchee, WA, brings a strong reputation for geotechnical engineering services across the Pacific Northwest, along with long-standing client relationships and a team known for quality and responsiveness. Nelson is known for its work in geotechnical engineering, including subsurface investigations, foundation design, slope stability analysis, and construction support services.

By joining forces, we’re expanding our ability to deliver integrated, high-quality solutions across more projects and communities. It also strengthens our capabilities in a core service area and enhances how we support our clients across the region. 

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as various market and business considerations.

US Pay Range

$27.50—$32.50 USD

Full-time employees receive a well-rounded benefit package including access to our company-sponsored Medical (including an HSA High Deductible option), Dental, Vision, FSA, and Supplemental Life Insurance plans. We also offer 100% company-paid Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability coverage. Employees are eligible to participate in our company's 401(k) plan with up to a 4% match. Additionally, employees receive paid vacation and sick time, 11 paid holidays, and are able to participate in employee ownership options. MacKay pays for expenses associated with licensure as well as annual performance bonuses.

Employment requires passing a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
