Trusted partners to some of the globe's leading food brands, we are dedicated to transforming ideas and creativity into tangible, delectable solutions.\nAbout the Role\nIt’s an exciting time to join the Engineering team at Macphie as we introduce four brand-new Lead Engineer positions at our Glenbervie manufacturing site.\nThese roles form part of a new engineering shift structure designed to strengthen our teams, improve how engineering priorities are managed on shift and provide additional support across our manufacturing operation.\nThere will be one Lead Engineer on each of our four shift teams, working alongside two Multiskilled Engineers. Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, you’ll be the focal point for engineering activity on your shift - helping to set priorities, coordinate workloads and keep communication flowing between Engineering, Production and the wider site team.\nThis is not a desk-based management role. You’ll remain very much hands-on and on the tools, responding to breakdowns, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance and fault-finding across mechanical and electrical equipment. Alongside this, you’ll take the lead in coordinating engineering activity and providing day-to-day direction and technical support to the engineers working alongside you.\nWhen the Engineering Supervisor and Engineering Manager aren’t on site, you’ll help lead the flow of communication between Engineering and Production, ensuring priorities, ongoing issues and operational risks are understood and appropriately escalated.\nSome of your key responsibilities will include:\nLeading, organising and prioritising engineering activity across your shift while remaining actively involved in hands-on maintenance.\nResponding to breakdowns and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults across manufacturing equipment, plant, utilities and site services.\nProviding day-to-day direction, technical support and guidance to engineers on shift.\nActing as the key engineering point of contact for Production and other site teams during your shift.\nEnsuring planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance are completed safely, effectively and within required timescales.\nConducting effective shift handovers and maintaining clear communication around plant status, ongoing work and engineering priorities.\nCompleting and maintaining relevant engineering, hygiene, site services and audit documentation.\nEnsuring engineering activity is carried out in line with Health & Safety, Food Safety and site compliance requirements.\nEscalating significant faults, safety concerns, resource requirements and operational risks to Engineering Management.\nSupporting engineering improvement activity, installations and projects across the site.\nAs these are newly created roles within Macphie, you’ll also have the opportunity to help shape how the Lead Engineer position develops as the new structure becomes established.\nThe shift pattern\nThe role works across a 28-day rotating shift pattern, which includes:\nA combination of day, early and night shifts\n40 contracted hours per week \nA repeating 28-day rotation, giving you visibility of your shifts well in advance\n7 consecutive days off during every 28-day rotation, giving you a full week off as part of your normal shift pattern\nWe appreciate that shift patterns can sometimes be difficult to visualise from an advert, so we’ll share the full shift pattern and talk you through exactly how the rotation works as part of the recruitment process.\nNot currently based in Aberdeenshire?\nDon’t let location automatically rule you out.\nOur Glenbervie site is based in Aberdeenshire, and we recognise that the right people for these roles may not currently live locally. If the opportunity is right for you and relocation to Aberdeenshire would be on the table, we can offer relocation support to help with your move.\nWe’re happy to have an open conversation about relocation as part of the recruitment process.\nRequirements\nWe’re looking for either an experienced Lead Engineer / Engineering Team Leader or a strong Multiskilled Engineer ready to take the next step into a lead role.\nWe’re looking for:\nA formal engineering qualification, apprenticeship or time-served background within a relevant mechanical, electrical or multiskilled engineering discipline.\nStrong mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge and fault-finding capability.\nExperience maintaining equipment within a manufacturing or similarly fast-paced environment.\nThe ability to prioritise engineering workloads and make sound decisions in a busy operational environment.\nConfidence providing direction and technical support to other engineers.\nStrong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across Engineering, Production, Technical and Quality.\nA structured and pragmatic approach to fault-finding and problem-solving.\nThe ability to remain calm and organised when responding to breakdowns and changing priorities.\nA proactive approach, taking ownership of issues and seeing actions through to completion.\nHigh attention to detail and a strong focus on safety, quality and engineering standards.\nEligibility to live and work in the UK.\nExperience within food or FMCG manufacturing would be advantageous but isn’t essential.
